I’m not even going there pug…not tonight anyway.

Dave, how about we use this handy dandy area for the tourney??
    Save Sherry Work Link<<<

I guess they put it there for us to use(?)

Just put a “please don’t reply to this post” on it and it should be easy to edit and stay clean.

    Just a thought.

I MIGHT even have Sherry make a web page with a list of rules and information, dates, etc.

    It’ll cost ya.

My work is in pretty high demand lately.

Besides… it will all be posted on the Moore’s Bait website once its set in stone.

Wouldn’t hurt to add it where Brian said too. The more the merrier!

About the payment…PayPal would be a lot easier than driving to Minneapolis on a Friday!

Is this going to be only on weekends? Any weekday contests? I’d think some people have their summer weekends planned in advance.

Length + Girth for sure, no weighing.

Length should be taken on a bumpboard type ruler and not with the fabric tape measure.

Girth should be taken with a fabric tape measure and not your Stanley steel tape.

You got a 50″ bump-stick, Hanson? (yes, I realize how dirty that sounds )

    That’s what it’s gonna take!

And as far as girth, can’t we just roll the fish along the ground and then measure how far it took for one revolution?

My largest flat was 54″ RW… I dont think any of us want to spend $40 for a bump-stick type measuring device.

The type of measuring device is going to be left to the anglers. Yes, there is going to be a slight margin of error, but I am not going to create a weigh-in to eliminate that issue. Those fabric tapes are very handy for taking girth measurements. EVERYONE should have one.

Hayward bound, we are not going to take PayPal. 3 ways to pay already, pay at Moores, mail a check/money order to Moores, or call and pay with a credit card. a $5 fee will be applied to credit card contest entry payments(cost Moors a few $$ for the transaction).

Whoah..Really didn’t mean to cause a hassle or make things too serious by bringing up the measuring thing. It was just something that was mentioned last year. Didn’t necessarily have to be the exact same tape, but there’s been enough suggestions of some now that hopefully everyone will at least have an easier time measuring!

    WH

You brought up a very valuable suggestion.. its insight like that I need to work with to try to make these contest as fair as possible.

It shouldnt be too difficult to take a couple dollars off the overall to supply measuring devices to contest participants(at a cost of $2 or so).

If its uncomplicated and practical to supply measuring devices to participants, I will go ahead and do it. Availability and cost of such type devices will be the deciding factor.. In other words, If I ca find plastic, florescent colored(or white) 48″ measuring devices for around $1 each, and fabric tapes for about the same.. they will be issued to all participants when they pay entry into their 1st contest

The fabric tape is handy for gith measurements, everyone should have one for general fishing use. The Measuring stick would give something of universal size to compare in photos.. Most people would think they would be a handy addition to a boat/equipment.

So.. as it stands now, universal measring devices are possible, not absolute.

The *pass-word, code-word*, whatever it gets called will be implied. It will be given out at any time on saturday, not a last minute thing. We can email it out, make calls, people call in, whatever, there will be plenty of time to get the word to everyone. My cell will be available 24 hours a day around contest times. If someone forgets a writing device, do what you have to do to get the word in a picture for verification.. write it in the sand on shore, scribe it into the paint of your boat, write it backwards on your forehead.. line up bullheads or dead shad in the shape of the word, I dont really care… that will eliminate any possibilty of someone trying to turn in a photo from a different night/outing.

These are going to be fun-based events with a few basic rules that are not excessive. There will be a very real possibility of making some cash out of all of these events to boot.

It’s not a bump-stick, but I was just at Menards and they have 72″ aluminum rulers (2-2.5″ wide) for about $10. I thought it would be great for sturgeon!

Might have to pick up one of those aluminum ones , the plastic one I have from Mills is starting to break. I like the ideas that are flying around in regards to the contest and I could commit to probably 3 of the nights at best.I do question the extra 5 bucks for doing it over the phone, the most I have ever been charged for a credit card over the phone is $1.50, but if Bob wants to make a couple extra bucks with the deal I’m ok with it.

    Grump,

I’ll cover your fees up front (if I’m playing in that months contests). So you don’t pay the extra and you can get me back when we cross paths. I know its not a big deal for you and its not for me.

My alterior motive is to fish in your boat with you

Haven’t had the chance to ride in an RP.

    Good to see you post.

Brian, we must be on similar wave lengths.

I’m paying all my entry fees up front and getting a refund If I cant make one. Its cuts down on the FW abiltiy to put the Kabosh on fish night if I tell her I’ve got to try to win my money back, since I’ve already paid.

The machine charges X amount each time a purchase is made(flat fee, then it charges a percentage of te purchase on top of that… I know it cost him money for people purchasing fishing licenses($1 service fee doesnt nearly cover it).

I would make an educated guess he will make $1 and some change for punching a bunch of numbers between custmers.

I dont know if he would charge more than one charge if more than one contest was paid at once?

We have to give Bob some credit here, he is profiting absolutely $0 off these contest, and being a great host. He sticks his neck out to try to provide everything the cat guys need, awesome selection, great prices, the best bait portions around(at the cheapest scoop price).

A $5 fee to cover the credit card machine and enough change left over for a doughnut(but not 2).. I wont complain. I cant even drive to the public access on the river for $2.

    Ok…

    another little update here.

I was contacted by a very knowledgable person on behalf of the Minnesota river. I got an eye opening message. I will be re-evaluating the upstream boundary for the Minnesota river. It will more likely be in the Sand Creek area(upstream of Carver) as a cut off area. There are some very important flathead spawning areas not too far upstream from there which I wouldnt want to potentially expose to any more pressure than they might already receive. The areas in questin were already slightly out of the boundaries, but too close for comfort. Some things are better off being left alone.

I will further discuss with this person where we should set boundaries to help avoid people from accidently floating over invisable contest boundaries and possibly getting into these spawning areas.

I dont want to make it possible to push a concentration of spawning fish on a small river system. Anything that might cause a negative impact on any fishery will not be any part of any contest I am organizing.

To make things easier Dave, I would make a launch a boundary. I guess my preference would be Shakopee but Chaska would also be fine. That way, it is pretty clear, you can only go downstream from X launch.

I tell ya what, if it wasn’t for your boundaries last year, there is water I probably never would have fished and I’m really glad I was “forced” to try new areas.

I’ll second Dtro and as I mentioned before,
I’m fine with anything below shakopee as well. I don’t see my self going above the shakopee bridge if the water is running at similar levels as last year.

My experience of Running aground twice, stuck on 2 different dead heads and trashing a prop with no sizable fish to show was not much fun.
As they say Fish and learn.

Larry you don’t have to cover any extra fees to ride in the ‘Pro, just a little barley pop or sippin solution covers the ride . How about you, me and Dtro hook up for the first night?

Carver Tressel bridge for the upstream line. That opens up a few more shore fishing opportunities for those without boats, and a couple more spots to those with boats that dare to run the shallows.

    That sound good guys?

If all the people go looking for not so obvious landmarks..thats fine with me, most the time they pass 50 good spots on the way…

I wonder what landmarks I can photoshop into some of my pictures this summer

Your right about the next big one!!! Thing is my wave hasn’t officially crashed yet!!!! I guess I’m a legend in my own mind.
Is it too early to start talking smack yet?!?!?!?

Its funny you mentioned that Dave, Cause in the last contest there ended up being 4 boats that fished as close as they could to that spot,(with out getting in my boat) And whats funnier, we still were the only ones that pulled fish out

And if we wanted to get really technical, That Honey Hole would have Go Catfish (where has he been by the way), Dtro,s and Brian K names on it. And if Pier is correct his name was on it from the year before. I caught fish there that put me in second place in the contests, but my real honey’s came from multiple places.
You know what the best thing about the MN river is?!?!?!
The Hot spot honey holes can shift annually.
And I am glad that boundaries were opened up for this season.

Wait a minute. I have witnesses that will attest that we stumbled upon that same area without any prior knowledge. However there is a couple hundred yards of that hold fish there I think, so I don’t know if there is a more refined area everyone else fishes there. I think I might have fished the downstream part more than maybe the rest of you fish it. I only fished it twice.

As for Tony, I hope things are going ok with him. I still have his number in my cell and I will probably call him in March and let him know about April 1.
