The warm weather has given me the “fever”, so I come looking if Dave is getting on those early spring channels.
I had a great time last year. You can bet I’ll be making it this year!

I’m OUT! (kidding)Old senile Brian confused me with you already, saying we looked alike, so I told him to quit insulting you like that. Anyway, you can tell us apart because I am the one with the growth under my lip.

And the smile is optional. You’ll end up leaving with one anyway.March 26, 2007 at 4:39 pm #553475Hey guys. This sounds like fun. I’m in. I’ve got a dollar to wager if OK. I feel lucky for some reason. What time does it start anyway?
I suppose I’ll need something a little bigger than my crappie rod this time if I want a chance. If anybody has a decent used reel that I could buy or trade for decals/signs PM me or just bring it. I could get it from you this Sunday. I’ve got the big SIGN SMITHS Van with dinosaur decals on the side. You can’t miss me.
Thanks,
ChrisMarch 26, 2007 at 5:37 pm #553511My friend Chris that you have seen me bring to a couple of our outings is going to be there too. He’s very excited to tryout his new Quantum Cat Rod and Okuma Spinning reel that he bought from Moore’s.
March 26, 2007 at 8:49 pm #553577So Dave, guys, what’s the food sitation going to be this year, are we grilling again? I’m more than willing to bring food along to share, Looking for ideas or suggestions, and maybe a someone with a grill again.
March 26, 2007 at 10:39 pm #553608Food situation.. I will be bringing my grill, fishhead will be bringing a back up grill.
I am bringing a small mountain of burger and some hot dogs.. and a couple 12 packs of soda, maybe some water.
Whatever anyone thinks might sound good, and is *low maintenance* would be a good choice.
*** Remember EVERYONE…NO ALCOHOL IS ALLOWED IN MINNEAPOLIS CITY PARKS ***
I am not saying nobody ever drank a beer down there, but there will be issues if theres a bunch of guys running around with alcohol…
Does anyone have an idea for a restroom facility, especiall for kids and women??? I am going to try to contact the park board tomorrow to see if they will bring one down. (I forgot)
March 27, 2007 at 3:35 am #553750Well I guess then I can bring chips and cookies
The rest rooms are an issue, not sure what to do about it.
March 30, 2007 at 2:24 am #554965wow.. gotta love spring weather!
We have high water in general, but it doesnt get high at the gathering area. The flow is nothing short of impressive in the main channel. There are some debris issues on and off at the gathering location. The water is on the dirty side(not unfishable), and the foam from the water churning at the upper dam is more of an issue than anything. There are a few logs floating around, they may be gone from the wind or inlets in the next couple days. We will see I guess?
The forcast says 30% chance of rain sowers for the gathering as of now… that doesnt sound like a washout. The temps will be in te 50’s with a w/sw wind around 10 mph.. it should be tolerable.
I havent been fishing much there lately, the report from blacksportsman tonight said he got a few fish, and a few more bites in a couple hours with the bites being very agressive.
Sunday is coming soon… keep our fingers crossed for fair weather!
March 30, 2007 at 1:39 pm #555055Hey Gang,
Catch a Cat for me. Have to go out of town again. Sorry to say that I will miss this event. I was very much looking forward. Dave, I gave you heads up already, but since I won’t be there. NO chips or dip to add to the meal.
Have fun every one and good luckMarch 30, 2007 at 1:57 pm #555065Quote:

Sorry to hear you won’t be able to make it. I was hoping all the usual suspects would be there.Let’s hope this rain triggers a nice bite on Sunday which is supposed to be a little dryer.
March 30, 2007 at 2:01 pm #520857does anyone know what the rules are governing dogs down there? I am most likely going to have my dog with me and I was just wondering if there are any fconcerns from others going jsut so I don’t make a bad impression on everyone
March 30, 2007 at 2:35 pm #555085Dave,
What do you recommend we bring for bait? Would fathead minnows work or should I try to find some type of cut bait? I think I still have some frozen shad from last fall in the freeze. Would they be a good choice? Or how about night crawlers? I plan to come with Dinosaur and my 4 year old son if the weather’s not too bad.
I think you mentioned that there are carp around the area too. I’ll bring some carp Powerbait balls just in case.
Thanks,
Boone
March 30, 2007 at 3:00 pm #555105The bait options are limitless. Shad are pretty reliable, fatheads have worked wonders, suckers have a good day once in a long while… if its legal, a chunk of it on the hook might be the winning bait.
As for restroom facilities, I have to call the lockmaster at after 2 pm today and talk to him about leaving the restrooms open by the upper lock building. Hopefully they will leave it open.
dtroInactiveJordanPosts: 1501March 31, 2007 at 8:09 pm #555457Rumor has it, the fish are still biting
I should be able to make it down there for a while tomorrow.
I picked up another surge rod today and will be selling two of my three Salt Striker combos. Rod/Reel and brand new 65lb PP…..$45
I will have both of them down there with me if anyone is interested. One or both are possibly spoken for already.March 31, 2007 at 8:38 pm #555459Sure, now you say you’re selling them when I go out and get a Salt Striker….or is the fact I bought one why you are selling?
March 31, 2007 at 9:00 pm #555463The good, the bad, and the ugly….
The good, yes, the fish are still biting in flurries and should provide some reasonable action for the gathering.. at least in spurts!
The bad, the weather is marginable. There is a probability it will be around 50 degrees with a few sprinkles or light shower floating around, the rain chance diminishes as the day goes on.. the only other option was to reschedule to next saturday which will be 40 and snow… 50 and drizzle sounds better to me. The other bad.. the locks will not open the restrooms, the city has to come in and turn the water on to the restrooms. There is a store and coffee shop not far away if neccessary, otherwise be creative I guess?
The ugly… FOAM. The wind is currently pushing in an endless supply of foam from the river, the wind direction will be shifting, hopefully pushing it out. We had foam about 2′ deep today.. or deep enough to LOSE 2 battling geese when they landed in it and lost direction in a small patch(10’x20′) and didnt come out for more tha 5 minutes(they were lost). The foam is very dense, you couldnt see it move when the geese were swimming in it?
As I said, we di catch some fish today, they are down there and reasonably willing to bite. The baitfish have moved out at the present time.
Be prepared tomorrow, bring warm clothes at the least, rain gear if you have it… its not going to be a bright sunny day, but it doesnt have to be miserable as long as your dressed for the weather.
