I was browsing the Catfish Connection website today and under ‘Cat Reels and Accessories’ there is a limited edition Black Cat reel.

Has anyone heard anything about this? It is cheaper than the 7000. Actually the model # is AMB 6500TCCF.

Looks pretty slick and could be a nice reel.

    Any thoughts?

    Since I’ve been talking reels…

Its a regular 6500C3 an engraved catfish logo on the side and black color to the reel.

The only thing different is it already has a Power Handle.

Like I said, same as a 6500C3. Gear Ratio is 5.3:1 (7000 gear ratio is 4.1:1)

Not a workhorse flathead cat reel but it’ll work.

So since there is a $10 rebate on the Black Cat (and it looks cooler) maybe I’ll buy it over the regular 6500C3 that I have been thinking about getting.

    Is it just me???

But when I see a place that sells “clonkers”…it just loses some of my respect???

    Know what I mean?

Yeah, I know what you mean.

The reel was interesting for a minute, but now I am not interested in it any more.

I’m still waiting for Pug to get one of those??? Clunkers???
I bet he would make believers out of us skeptics. As well as restore dignity and respect to those places you hold in such high regard.
YooHoo Pug………. did you ever get your hands on a clunk yet??
    sorry pal couldnt resist. LOL.

I am going to get one just to pass the boredom for the times I am fishing alone (your welcome in advance).

By the way, I believe the clonker also doubles as a roughfish (Walleye, Bass, Pike) no hands, quick (relatively) release tool. And whatever is left makes excellent chum.

I shied away from it because I didn’t think it could be used shore fishing. But after reading up on it, apparently you can. Considering my last season, for me it is worth a shot. I’ll be putting my order in soon. You may have to refer to me as Master Clonker Pug if it turns my luck around. Is it May yet?

    Master Clonker Pug?!?!?!?
I’ll give you Master and I’ll give you Pug. But sorry to say you will be stuck with “Clunker”. Untill the time that you have proved your Cat fishing Prowess. Only then can the rightful name will be restored.

I am not even sure if a couple of sticks of dynamite could turn my luck around!

Sorry Pug, I stand corrected. I got a feeling that this is your year (given that the last one was a little difficult) Especially if you get a Clunk. I’ll tell you what. IF you do get one. I’ll take you out and we can Clunk from 35w to the MN/MISS confluence. I’m sure that we would be able to rustle somthing up.

I appreciate the vote of confidence, but there is no need to apologize It’s nice that I live closer to the Mn and Miss. I should have more opportunities this year to break the 20# barrier I, sad to say, have yet to break. With any luck I’ll break the 40#. Last years scouting after the move I think helped me eliminate some dead water.

I know the area you speak of and hope to hit it more this year. That’s where my lovely GF caught her first flat. I’ll have to take you up on that offer.

Cabin fever sure is setting in early this year. I hope the river runs high this spring, because I want to try my early spot last year that I caught one to see if it was a fluke. Blah, blah, blah, ramble, ramble, ramble, pacing back and forth. And I thought bass fishing made me obsessive-compulsive.

Does anybody have one of these black reels? A pic posted of one would be neat. Ok…so I’m a little kid in a big body. lol. But a black catin reel is new, unique, and seeing one would be like nice. Abu makes great reels which most people think of as a walleye or bass fishing type reels. Finally theres a great Abu Garcia reel named after catfish. Its a ”first time/first thing” that has happened like this for cat fishermen/women so enjoy it. Its about time cat fisherpeople get acknowledged like this. Give yourself a pat on the back and a high five because you have now become ”special.”
    Thanks, Bill

    Bill,

    Go here web page

Click on reels and then the black cat then click the link that says AG6500CAT. I can’t find this anywhere else so the connection likely asked for the artwork. This is a fine reel.

I think it is worth it just to have the little cat on the side of the real. Yes, I am a marketers dream.

Bill, we’ve actually had the same thing before, but it was in red. I looked just like the mushy version but with a cat on the side. These look very similar with the exception of the color and of course there could be a differance in side.

I agree, the connection likely had them made for them…or possible they are the discontinued model changed to black(?)

It would be easier if they painted it a bright flourescent color so we can find it in the dark

I know Brian really likes pink

How about a glow in the dark reel to match my Berkley glow stick. I might have to patent putting an LED light on a reel. I think that might be next. How sweet would that be to have an LED and reflectors on the guides? You could even have a couple of wires to hook up to the marine battery to recharge the LED battery.

    PATENT PENDING 2007

and I wonder why no one wants to fish with me.

Thanks. Those reels do look very sharp. Almost like a collectors item. Kinda special when they do something like that for a certain group of anglers and on a great brand of reel too.
    Thanks, Bill
