Its not my scissors, I was borrowing it.

I’m thinking positive Brian. I’ll be up there no matter what the conditions and after last weekend, the boat is set to go as well. Yippee!

I’m not sure if a lot of folks realize there is going to be a 20 mile drive from the resorts to launch your boat if the ice doesn’t hurry up and melt, or maybe they do. Keeping abreast of ice conditions from over 300 miles away isn’t the easiest job in the world. I’ll take any info I can get.

8 days to go for me. Just look for the guys with the big smiles, that will be us.

I just got off the phone with Wigwam resort to verify our cabin. She said the Birchdale access is open, and the river is slowly opening up down to the resort. She did not think it would be open at the resort when we are there

I think Hanson is right about trailering up to open water, and trying to fish the main river body. She did think Clementson access would be open, but from there it is anyones guess.

I am going to throw some ice melt, shovel, and ice spud in the truck in case accesses are in poor condition. They don’t have a Dean to take care of things there

Nube question here as I have not been on the Rainy before, how worried should I be about running a Ranger 620, as it pertains to where we might be forced to fish? I would hate to make any marks in her on the maiden voyage.

Our group has had a change of plans due to the no dock situation at Wigwam, it will not be feasable for us to trailer our boat and launch 4 days in a row.
WHICH MEANS……there is a open cabin at Wigwam ask for TRAILSIDE!
Bummer, we were looking forward to meeting all you guys. Maybe next year
Anybody know of a resort that has docks on the river to tie a boat to?

The medals wanted you guys to know that they will be going up north no matter what the ice conditions are
Rumor has it the contest now includes Clementson Resort and Wigwam and they will be awarded at Wigwam saturday night.

Dan, you should not have to worry. Until last years Excursion, I’ve fished walleye the previous 9 years during the early spring. As the spring progresses the county will take a back hoe and clear the ledge ice at the ramp and it’s good to go. There might be some floating ice. I can’t remember seeing logs and debris like on the pools of the Miss.

You should be in fine shape.

Also, you guys may want to consider either a heavy anchor or a Waterspike. The river’s bottom is fairly clean with not a whole lot for an anchor to hang on to.

Are we only allowed one rod/line per license? Or is there specific regs that allow two up there??

Jez…nothing like messing up the whole thread!

Don’t you worry, there will be pleanty of Eel Pout for you.

As of this morning the river is open 25 miles from Wigwam…if we can count on the weatherman for the 50’s and 60’s next week, we’ll be fishing all over 4 mile bay…if not, it’ll be rainy river fishing at it’s finest!

I have been looking for a Rainy River topo without much luck!

I have the lakemaster program for the computer, no luck!

I do not have the LOW chip, but thier website shows that it only goes from LOW to Baudette, helpful, but I want it from Rainy Lake to LOW.

Any help would be great, I will pass on any info I find!

    Thanks,

Been checking out the webcam up there, and the ice is getting darker by the day and opening up by the shore. The warmer weather is going to speed up the thaw for sure-keep your fingers crossed.

Hey everyone heading to the Sturgeon Excursion check out this Sturgeon .. I set the bar high for you guys….
I will also give you a little report about current conditions on the River right now!!! The current flow is minimal… .3 through .5 mph on a drift this past weekend!!! Water clarity is about 15″!!! And the river is still iced up to clementson resort!!! Which means about 15 or so miles to the gap! However if they get any rain durning the week that ice will be gone in no time!!
More good news, the sturgeon are in the river big time!!! I seen lots of sturgeon caught on jigs this weekend, whether they were snagged by accident or actually bit! They are around in good numbers!!!
Also a word of caution fellas, if your limited to fishing the River make sure that you fish the American side of the River not the canadian….The Canadian customs was out this weekend in full force checking for Remote Border Passes! If your on the canadian side without one its $1000 fine!!! Just a heads up!!!
Good luck to everyone heading up!!!!
