Sounds like we need to construct a fence.

Yup! Jason had fun being “man handled” by a fish! Tuckered him right out.

hansonPosts: 728March 2, 2007 at 3:33 pm #5438621 month huh? Through the ice?
I’ve got the 1st week in April penciled in for ice fishing up there. Going to try and do the late, late ice thing this year I believe.
March 2, 2007 at 11:33 pm #544077Hi guys. The channel is not marked. Kinda sucks but what can you do?

March 12, 2007 at 12:20 am #547564I lost Mike W. for my boat partner just this weekend…something about “WORK”…..iiiish! So….I have an open seat in my boat, and an open spot in a cabin at Wigwam with Koldfront Kraig, Rootski, and myself. If there is anyone out there that is interested, let me know. I am leaving the north metro early Friday morning, staying at Wigwam Fri. and Sat. nights, and returning to north metro Sunday. PM me if you have an interest..
March 17, 2007 at 2:20 am #549884Greg Merz (gmerz)….He is a newbe to sturgeon, but a great stick, and he is excited to go…..that makes all 4 of us ready now!!!!

Any guidance on line size/type, sinker size/type, hook size/type?
Are there cooking facilities in the cabin? Or, are their restaurants open for breakfast?
Wigwam has a restaurant that will be open…along with a bar. The cabins are set up with microwaves, stove, frige…all the good stuff. I don’t like doing dishes…so I bring paper plates…last year I just brought along an apron for Chris Tuckner…he looked so good in it…where are those pics anyway??
Be back in just a moment with tackle suggestions.
March 21, 2007 at 7:16 pm #551583From CatdadMN…last year…
We will be fishing the Minnesota side of the river.
You can buy the canada license but I have found no need for it in the past 5 years.
Heavy bass equipment will do but muskie / cat stuff will help you land these fish a little quicker. An average day will be 20-30 fish per boat with most of them running in the 40-50 inch range. The season is catch and release only.
I like small hooks made of very strong wire. 2/0 is as large as I go. 1-3 oz weights will be plenty.
These fish are quite easy to catch so dont worry about being a sturgeon expert.
March 21, 2007 at 11:36 pm #551721What size / make of line? I assume simple bell sinkers as well? Any need for a steel leader?
March 21, 2007 at 11:48 pm #551730Many differant views there.
I’ll have 30 lbs mono on one and other rods rigged with 80lb Power Pro…just because they aren’t line shy and that’s what I have rigged for cats.
Bank sinkers will work, some like them better. I’ll be using 3 oz no roll sinkers. Make your leaders out of the line you are using…these boys haven’t any teeth…just a big sucker mouth.
March 28, 2007 at 7:06 pm #554403Is everyone towing their boat up for this event? I’m looking to rent a boat up there for this event, and after a “little” research it looks like for $85 you can get a small runabout from Sportsmans (recommended by Wigwam, they will not have their rentals ready).
Anybody know of other options, even a little nicer boat (like Everts rentals) with rod holders, etc.
Thanks,
STCROIXERMarch 28, 2007 at 7:18 pm #554408As far as I’m aware, everyone towed a boat up last year….or went with someone with a boat.
Might want to make a post looking for an open boat seat.
March 28, 2007 at 7:47 pm #554435Thanks Brian!
But………we have 3-4 guys going, I bet we could fit in your boat, thanks a lot for the offer
We will be bringing up the big boat for comforts sake, just looking at alternatives for the sake of the gas. 780 miles round trip at 6-7mpg
Thanks for the advice!March 30, 2007 at 3:02 pm #555107Just ordered worms from Moore’s Bait and Tackle
Brian – we ripped out the bunks and threw in a big screen, sorry
I renamed the boat this year, and it will be unveiled at this years event

wastewaterguruPosts: 87April 3, 2007 at 5:15 pm #556389Well I’m still considering trying to make this trip.
Anyone have an open spot in their cabin?? I would love to jump in another boat rather than bring mine……but I might be able to be persuaded either way.
April 3, 2007 at 6:15 pm #556439Bonus Time:
Here it is, the first prototype for the 2007 excursion. This medallion will be given out to the IDA member who gets the biggest fish of the day Saturday that is staying at Wigwam.
It is 5″ wide, and 1/8″ aluminum with the writing and sturgeon etched into the aluminium!
