FYI Marty, you’ll need one of those ball type bouy’s to attach to your anchor…about the size of a soccer ball.

But it is fun to experiment!

Well, I have to ask; why didn’t you pull up the anchor?

I was thinking about hauling up one of those 55 gallon yellow barrels (like in Jaws)

Well you see, that would only make sense. We got a little flustered, you’d think we never caught a fish in our life.

I don’t care who you are or how many fish you caught, that happens when you get a big one on.

We pretty much had a routine down when a sturgeon got on. One guy cleared the lines as quick as possible while the other guy pulled up the back anchor rope. We never had to worry about the front rope as most of the fighting occurred off the back of the boat. I don’t think we had any fish run upstream of the boat on us. Its an exciting fire drill, thats for sure.

The best one I’ve seen…was with Fisher Dave this fall. He actually did it quite expertly…but it was still funny.

He was by himself…raising the back anchor, pulling in the second line…all the while fighting a 60 plus in fish.

It didn’t help with us laughing and hooting and hollard at him….what fun.

Marty, I am with Mike on the beer Monica and I started making wine this last year but I have not tried beer yet. We need to talk That beer was goooood. Me and Rootski were right next to Dennis where they were taping. I know alot of guys gave you some crap but it was all in good fun I think.
Another thing we found nice about up there was you dont have to fish the community areas to put fish in the boat. Steve caught a few nice fish the last day and we olny had a handfull of boats around us. Looking fowarward to getting back up there

After reading this, and then rereading this, I think I am in. PM sent to Cat.

Plan on having 3 guys (Myself, Dad, and Bro in Law), and plan on putting the smack down on a few sturgeon

Farmboy, was it Marty’s beer or the sturgeon!?

It’s the time of year when the walleye season is closed and there’s not much else to do. Gets the kinks out of the boat too.

I think it was both Brian

You made a true catfisherman out of my Dad last year. He was talking about doing this trip at Christmas, and I guess he talked me into it

    Should be a great time

Once the cabins are gone, there’s some rooms in the lodge.

However…they are going fast. I’m thinking we’ll have double the people from last year.

    I just reserved a 6-man cabin.

I will have at least 1, maybe 2, open seats in my boat (I have enough equipment to outfit as well – so tackle is not a necessity). I want 4 guys total in my rig to minimize gas expenses. I will be leaving from Osceola Wi, so hooking up here, or in North Branch should really help with fuel costs. I am assuming the 2 add-ins will share the cabin as well.

So – there will be two open bunks in my cabin for any interested non-smokers.

As far open boat seats, expect good comraderie, and don’t be offended if somebody .

Of course they would be secret…it’s not like I would put them on the internet or something!

Didn’t you live up there? I have a short memory.

Wondering what the regulations are on LOW for sturgeon? I think I have read that it is 1 pole per angler, catch and release since it is before the 24th. Any regs specific to LOW?
Couple of other random questions: Do most boats stay in 4 mile bay, or do some go down the Rainy? As for current, how does it relate to the St.Croix?
Side note: I think there needs to be an IDA Flag in the store, I know our boat would fly it high for the excursion.
    Thanks for the help guys!

That’s about it Jerrad for regulations.

Stay on the US side. There will be pleanty of people that know the area to help.

A few boats went up the Rainy but it’s really not productive..at least last year. Most fished within a half mile of Wigwam. A few went out to the gap.

There was more current then Lake St Croix last year..but that doesn’t take much. A 2oz sinker will keep your worm on the bottom.

Going to have to work on the flag piece though.

Pending cabin availability, Kooty and I are in. The thought of taking digital pics of Kooty with a sturgeon is open to commentary….

Is anyone traveling Thursday to hit the water first thing Friday AM?
