I’m in too. Bringing homebrew again and hopefully leaving the circus act at home this year (those that saw the “chasing of the sturgeon” last year know what I am talking about).

Heck yeah, the Better Half and I are in again!!!

If you are on the fence about going, let me push you over by saying you will not regret going. Nothing like seeing one of these monsters come completely out of the water once you hook up. It is a short boat ride out to the fishing and the fishing does not get easier than tossing out a gob of crawlers and watching the rod tip.

Francis? Maybe the Better Half will allow you to catch the BIG fish this time!

With all that she puts up with from me, I am totally fine with this. The last 2 time we were in the boat together she always catches the 1st fish and the largest.

I’m totally in. I’ve got some friends that are interested, too.

I may need a seat in a boat, if anyone has room for me. I’d appreciate it.

I will be in – if the FW says I am. I have a Lund Tyee w/ full canvas – nice and warm to fish out of – and have a couple hundred plus sturgeon under my belt(several years of hitting it hard before it was popular….those were the days ). I would not mind a boatful(4 total would be comfortable) to help defray tavel costs. PM me if possibly interested.

I hope rookies are welcome. I caught sturgeon fever last summer with BrianK, and can’t sleep at night now. Thanks Brian!
Brian – can/would you guide up there, wouldn’t mind your expertise day 1.

Nope no guiding…but between all the sturgeon guys you won’t need a guide!

It’s easy fishing! There will be more info on what’s needed after the holidays.

Nightcrawlers seemed to work the best for most last year.

    BrianK,
    Here’s how I remember it:

We had a good sized sturgeon on, and it shook it’s head a couple of times but wouldn’t budge and then started to take off. I can’t remember who it was, but they said- “hey you’re gonna have to chase this one around, tie off your anchor rope to a vest, a marker bouy, or something, and come back and get it later”.

So as my buddy(Thom) was chasing this thing around the boat, my other buddy(Woody) is busy tying off the anchor rope to a marker buoy. Woody finishes tying it off and says “okay, go!”. So I start to try and follow this thing but I don’t seem to be moving. Everyone around us is laughing and pointing. Woody didn’t realize the anchor rope was looped through the tie-down loop(?) on the bow. So we’re just still sitting there, so I move the boat forward so Woody can get ahold of the rope again. So he’s untieing the rope, un-looping the rope out of the bow, and trying to re-tie the rope to the marker buoy while the current is pulling the boat. AND Thom is running back and forth in the boat trying to follow the fish. SO now the anchor rope is tied off to the marker buoy, Woody throws it over the side of the boat, and the marker immediately SINKS in the current!!!

NOW the chase is on!!! As a sidebar, I have a hard enough time controlling my boat in calm water, let alone a river. So I’m now pretty much going in circles, so Thom is running around the boat with the fish, he gets to the counsel in the boat and is going to have to hand off the rod to Woody in the front of the boat, because I didn’t take down the 8 foot radio antennae. Just as the hand off is made, the fish makes a run and the line SNAPS!! Now Thom is throwing his rod and swearing up a storm and everyone around us is deathly quiet…..for about 2 minutes. AND then the verbal grilling starts in…”hey, nice boat control… hey, how’s that anchor doing down there with the popcan sized buoy!!…couldn’t tell if you three were fishermen or the keystone cops!!…you should see that on film, it’s even funnier the second time around!!! We all had a good laugh, even Thom after he cooled down.

We never did get my anchor back, so if anyone catches and anchor tied to a buoy I think I know the owner (ME!!).

Well – I spoke to the FW last night about it and she gave me the go-ahead . HOWEVER: As always, she holds the power of the final VETO (where do I turn my man card into? ). SO it looks like I will be able to make it and I will have 1 or 2 open seats. It would be nice to travel 4 in a vehicle – and cut the gas cost down. Whoever is interested in filling the seats needs to not be offended that we may kill a few while anchored. Put up the full canvas, soak some crawlers, and suck suds between fish – life does not get much better.

Umm Marty? Did you say someone has video??

Timmy, just tell the FW that once you’ve committed…there is no backing out…everyone is relying on you!

I believe so…they were in a RiverPro and were filming for IDA I think. I actually hope they taped over it! It’s bad enough that I remember, although it still makes me laugh .

Sounds like a good way to end up with a poke in the nose!! Ha ha…..just thinking of this makes me giddy – it has been too long since I have caught one of those pullers.

I bet that was Dennis or Rusty.

I heard a story about a nice fancy boat with sponsor logos on the side losing an anchor because the current pulled their marker buoy under the water that was tied off to the anchor rope. Ya need a bigger buoy! Rookies…

Yep that was the Fishhead. We heard the story third hand and it was pretty much exactly how you described it.

In fact I think they might have mentioned they caught it on film

I will be there again. Marty, bring me a couple extra bottles of that home brew. That stuff was top shelf last year. I almost cried when you left with them.

I don’t know if I’d call my boat fancy, but i’ll take the compliment.. or the shot. . It is rather long though (that way we can run back and forth chasing the fish.)
