How much would this fish weigh?
Its impossible to say… do you think you could have held it any further in front of you?
It looks like a thick fish, and I havent hung one on a scale for a while. a low 40″ fish can be from 25#-45#.
I dont thinks its all that heavy(not knocking your fish). If it were, I have a hard time believeing you would be holding out that far in front with a strait face.
Could you take another picture holding a group 27 marine battery out just as far and high for comparison?
December 12, 2006 at 2:26 am #509942Great photo. From the looks of the photo take your own weight and x2.
December 12, 2006 at 2:28 am #509944More than a 50 lbs scale could handle.
…and DON’T tell me it was caught on a STEWART PRO BLUE RINGWORM!!
I would guesstimate between 50 and 60..
Nice fish my any measure!
…Mack, I’m guessing you haven’t heard all the warnings. Eating large flathead cats is depleating the ozone.
December 12, 2006 at 2:28 am #509946He could have held it A LOT further in front of him!!! Looking at the size of the fish, I am doubting he was holding it out from his body at all….AND considering I took the picture, I KNOW he wan’t holding it out from his body….It was just the camera work
December 12, 2006 at 2:30 am #509947Elbows look bent to me.
And a very nice looking fish also.Jeff
December 12, 2006 at 2:32 am #509948Nice fish..
I would guess it to be in the 40+ pound range.
But I do not weigh very many that I catch.
It is a big fish congratesdtroInactiveJordanPosts: 1501December 12, 2006 at 3:27 am #509969I tell ya what. You get a girth measurement on that bad boy and the guessing ends right there.
I’d say anywhere from high 30’s to mid 40’s.
I’m with Dave on this one.
December 12, 2006 at 3:36 am #509971It doesn’t look like it’s held that far out to me.Funny how muskie guts and cat guys alike judge /doubt BIG fish by the photos. Needless to say that’s a very nice fish no matter what! Congrats are in order.. I only can hope to catch one that big some day. Way to go!!!! Looks like a 50Lb. class fish to me, although I’m no expert.

No it wasn’t a Pro Blue! but it was on a ringworm and here are a few more pics of fish that fell prey to the ring worms ! the first is another pic of the same fish and the next 2 are of a 40″ flat and a channel cat
December 12, 2006 at 3:41 am #509974Come on Mr. Gun! What did you catch him on?
I love giving Dustin crap about catching cats on the Pro Blue! It would be ok with me if you lied!
December 12, 2006 at 3:44 am #509977WOW!
Seeing the second picture of the big girl.. She’s truely a beast. Definitely 50-60 lbs. for sure.December 12, 2006 at 3:52 am #509984Ps I just trimmed your photo up a bit so it fit on the page better. 640×480 works best for pics.
December 12, 2006 at 3:54 am #509987Its a big fish.. I’ll give you credit there.
Its about 40 pounds, I am sure of that.
the 2nd picture.. I have never seen a flattie with a tail as big as its head.. the tail is closer to the camera.
Nice fish and nice pictures!

yep because the bass and walleye NEVER do that…..right?
Without a girth, it’s basically impossible to get the number right by a picture alone. Ballpark yes, but it is only a guess.
I’ve seen 44″ fish struggle to make 30 and yet others that push 50.
I can tell you one thing, once you hold a 50+ lb fish you know how damm difficult it is to hold it out AT ALL. Try it with a sack of salt one time……and that’s only 40lbs.
That is a very nice fish and congratulations.
But if you ask for “guesses” prepare to hear all arguments and have everything analyzed. To me who really cares… it’s an awesome fish and I sure wish I would’ve caught it.
hansonPosts: 728December 12, 2006 at 2:13 pm #510079The fish is a solid 40 pounder for sure. I’m not really sure it’ll go 50 though.
I know Larry caught that 48″ last year that was at the low end of 40 pounds. My 44″ went 48lbs.
I would say a good number would be 45lbs, in that range anyway.
Brian- Are you smoking something? 60lbs? Really? No way that fish is as big as Dan Thiems.
December 18, 2006 at 3:47 pm #512475I have No idea on how much your fish weighs..
But how much did that BIG ARSE BUCK, weigh on your avator?
That thing is huge!!!!!!!!!
Oh, How bid was that rack too???December 22, 2006 at 12:50 am #514143Nice fish Mate!
the big ones are hard to judge weight even with measurments.December 27, 2006 at 1:18 am #515352All those fish coming from the same area….wintering hole you think? That’s the same place I pulled a 27 # around a month ago.
Nice fish…bet that was fun
