For people like me who have been scouting areas of the river that I have never fished.
    MSN Local Live
It looks like most other maps with satellite imagery, but it also offers a “birds eye view” of places near Minneapolis and St. Paul. The images look fairly new (within the last 3 or 4 years). They are pictures that are from a plane that are at an angle as opposed to directly overhead. It should help finding areas for to fish from shore, especially figuring out if a road/park/trail gets near enough to the river.

Judging from some spots that I am very familiar with, I’d say that these pictures were taken during EXTREMELY high water conditions.

    Still awesome, though.

Yeah the water is high…very high in most the picts I saw. I could be off, maybe some are from the flood in the 97? I know if you click on the S,W and E directions in the birds eye view, it seems you get pictures from a completely different time. I wish the pictures were from a low water period, because that would be even more helpful.

Looking at some of my MN river fishing spots on this tool – some were unrecognizable. Backwaters filled to the brim etc.

Still and excellent thing to monkey around with.

I know that really bites the water is so high. I hope the day is coming that they’ll be able to update satellite picts quarterly or at least yearly/every other year.

I guess they are adding 3D buildings to the application. Not really going to help us fishing-wise, but still pretty cool. I believe if you just go to local.live.com, you will see a button on the left for downloading. Only 2 buildings in Minneapolis so far, but it should get more pretty quickly. I hope that Google Earth does the birds eye view at some point, because that is really the one thing that will make me use Live more than Google.
