This year ive got quite a few pike and eyes on cut bait. I actually appeased my son and let him use cutbait with a bobber in a slack water pool outside a riffle, and he got a 2 lb smallie. Suppose if the fish is hungry enough and a little current gives it movement Why not?!!?

I caught a pike in the dead of summer on cut bait. I imagine if it is fresh enough and they are keen on the smell, what fish won’t eat it. I think cats are just equipted and in fact look for food more by smell. You might not attract other species with cut bait as easy, but if they pass buy it, they;d be silly to pass it up.

Just today I was fishing up by the Camden bridge in N Mpls. Caught both a northern and a smallie on cutbait. No cats…

And to generate any kind of bites, the cut bat had to be changed VERY regularly.

I use only the finest Equadorian fruit bats flown in daily.

Here was my bait of the day.

Nothing but frustrating nibbles. My guess little fish were pecking at it. Either that or sa soon as the fish bit it his eyes’s started burning like every time I opened the cooler. I will be happy when it is too cold to fish the river anymore this year. There’s always next year.

I’m certain that all bats in Mn used for bait would need to be stunned by flying into mono on the water you plan on using them on, as tranport would be stickly verboten.

Surely there would need to be a length limit on bats, say under 7 inches, for sure

I think there was something in the R & R about Louisville Sluggers are even outlawed on Mn waters

I wonder now if you’d use a circle or an octopus hook for a bat…

    I’m out
