Hi guys, A few friends want to get out Saturday night and try this Cat fishing. Only problem is none of us have ever done it. So wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction. We plan on heading to caught some sunfish on Saturday afternoon, and then either fish from the boat or offshore. I heard of a few stops by Goose but don;t they close at a certain time? Are there any other general spots anyone could share with us. I assume that they can still be caught this time of year, Do they still hold in current? are they in snags durning the night? Are they in deep water off a damn? Or all 3

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hey John! Hire up our main man BK here. One night with him and you’ll never want to fish flats again. Problem solved!

Seriously though. The guys on this forum are a wealth of knowledge. Look through some older threads and see what you can pick up.

You should have no problem catching a few channel cats about now, as they seem to be feeding pretty voraciously.

What kind of rig (rod-line-terminal tackle) are you planning on using?

Goose Island closes at 10:00pm I believe. They normally don’t say anything if you are using the main boat launch, and you can’t get locked in from there. That is a plus
I’m thinking you are fishing pools 8 or 9?
I would also ask, Channels or Flatheads? The cahnnel cats were on a good bite weeks ago. The majority of the fish were along the main channel break 12 -20FOW on the outside bends.
As far as Flatheads, I had trouble with them this year
Good luck, hope this helps some!

Interesting question. Pool 8 or 9 is correct. As you can tell I am new since I am not even sure what we are going after? Or I probably couldn’t even tell you the difference if we did caught one. I do know we plan on getting some gills, since they are league to use in WI on the Mississippi correct?

I think we will search for a place on shore, so we do not have to deal with a boat at night. So if anyone has some suggestions and would like to share otherwise I am going to comb the site to see what type of area I should be looking for, for shore fishing.

    Yo John,
I threw a PM your way that might help you out in the La Crosse area
If you have questions on hooks, weights, rigs, or what ever, you should find the answers if you do a search in this forum! Make sure to check out the Catfish Reports also. This place is full of good stuff. If you are still confused….well you know, just ask
