With a beauty night like tonight Mike C and I headed out with some fresh suckers after work to do some drifting. We are still working the Main Channel break (outside bends) in 13-20FOW and still finding Channel Cats drifting with cut suckers
Wats you are not going to believe it, I’ll let Mike C tell the story
The first 2 fish of the night were shorty’s with the third fish at 7lbs pictured here. The best bite was from 9:00 till a little after 10:00.

The last fish I picked up was a fat 11lb Cat. At first this Cat was confused and left the water like a green carp, after that episode it didn’t want to come off the bottom.
I had a blast tonight Mike

    Nice cats Bret!

Was that net marks on the flat or was that the design?

I’m really glad we are getting some reports from down that way with some regularity!

    Thanks!

The Cat had a marbled design down her back Brian. I was glad to see it showed up in the picture. Mike and I took a little time to admire her. It was a very cool looking Cat and she took off no worse for ware.

Notice Pug, my tongue is not hanging out. That might make some difference

Oh! I know you take care of your fish Bret! Didn’t mean to imply that at all.

Sometimes when I net a fish or when the line wraps around them it makes a slight design.

That is a cool looking green marble!

Never for a second was I thinking you were implying anything Brian I have also seen were the net will make designs in the skin.
It was a very cool looking Cat. You can see the design ran all the way to the tail. Also for a fish this sizes, its whiskers didn’t have a flaw. I have noticed on a lot of the bigger cats, there is usually a messed up whisker! Mike C and I were very impressed with the condition she was in

I noticed those whisker too. The seemed long for that size body…maybe not…but just long.

I’m thinking that we should have a flat contest some time…open to all areas… the winner would be selected by the longest total combined whisker lenght. The photo would have to show a tap held to the whisker.

A sixty pound fish might not have much skers at all…well, and interesting thought…

…and Bret…keep your shirt on…we have ladies in this forum

Sorry Brian, I never meant to offend any of the Sally’s
I like the thoughts of a whisker contest. It sure would be something different. It would even out the playing field

Or you could add a wisker category to the regular tourneys and maybe not count the fish that win the size categories?

After hearing about Wat’s experience fishing with Bret last Saturday I thought I was ready to keep up with Bret. First I volunteered to use my boat — no “home field advantage” for Bret, I used the same type of rod, line, setup, bait – the only difference was the type of reel AND I drank Mike’s Hard Lemonade which is where Wats thought he went wrong. We even traded off which sides of the sucker we cut off the cutbait from. My scientific deduction after getting skunked is that Bret is the CatMeister . I must say though that I had a blast netting all those kitty’s for Bret and weren’t those some great pictures that his partner took???? Sorry about the no shirt picture – – it could have been worse – – me without a shirt . Like Bret said it was a great night to be out on the water – thanks buddy Bret .

Here’s wishing all you IDA’ers a fun and safe Labor Day weekend.

Thanks Mike C… Bret’s been catten for a while…if you don’t no all the OLD tricks he looks like he’s the Miester of Cats no doubt….

Here’s a little secret…next time you go fishing with him…watch were he puts his fingers.

Alright you gutter minded fishers…I was refering to the Sonny’s Super Sticky that he has stuck under his seats…in the boat!

    Good job Bret!

Thanks Brian. I overheard him telling his side of the story today at work and I think you are on to something his story gave a whole new meaning to stink bait
