I recieved a PM from a new IDA member and he was aking who taught me to fish and what is so great about catfish. I wrote back saying who taught me to fish- thanks Dad -and why I chose to fish cats.

I got his reply this morning and he says “well i’m trying to figure out why you are fishing for catfish and not for gamefish”

    What the???????????????????

He must have never experienced what 50 lbs of screaming flathead can do to a “normal” person.

You might want to ask him if the next time he goes out and catches some of those “bass things”, to keep a few for you. Always need good bait

Hold on there Tony, when you went fishing with me you told me you like to fish multi-species, Channel or Flathead. You know I’m one of those Walleye guy’s that would like to try the dark side some night.

Ask him what fish are game fish and those will all be eaten by critters with barbels. You might also ask how many limits he has caught that go over a hundred pounds. If you can lift them out of the water with your rod only, they aren’t even worth trying for.

Invite him out some time and change his outlook about what a “game” fish is.He would realy have a cow if he found out I some time fish carp for the sport of it. Stuart

All due respect given the previous suggestions but I wouldn’t reply at all. Clearly he’s trying to goad you into an arguement. One that you can’t win.

I would suggest the “ignore” function for PM’s. Click on the users name and select the “ignore user” option.

You’ll no longer receive PM’s from that person and even this person’s posts will be omitted from your personal view of the forums.

Life’s too short to argue with small-minded people.

James- thank you and I already did that.

You’re right life is too short to argue over something like this.

Everyone knows why I fish cats, because we all share the same reasons.

Hopefully it is someone I know, then I can whoop his next time we are fishing.

I fish for the enjoyment of being out there and the fight. When fishing catch and release I just want action! Just my thought.

One other thing, and then I will be done with this.

He obviously has not seen any of my posts in other forums. I’m pretty sure if you back at what I post and what I reply to, you will see that I am a multi-specie fisherman. When it comes down to it, I just want to catch fish

    Ok I’m done.

I just catfish regularly so I can forget my cutbait in my truck occasionally on hot days, have freezers stocked with various dead things, and batteries go dead on bait tanks once in a while so I can experience stewed bullheads.

If this ‘member’ gets out of hand behind the scenes with anyone else just let me know and I’ll send him packing.

This guy posted this in another thread in response to you. It was kind of cryptic and the guy’s first post.

    Was this ‘mic’ by chance?

Ok well I will just put my foot in my mouth now.

It turns out that this guy is my aunt’s brother. Man do I feel like an right now. It’s all good now.

So please welcome him to IDA, he is a bass fisherman. So we’ll have to work on that. All joking aside, he is a great fisherman and will be a great addition to IDA.

    Welcome aboard mic

I’m going to crawl in the hole I came out of now

    Hey Gocatfish.

Don’t feel bad. It is the internet age. Who know’s who this could have been.

It could have been a walleye guy for all we know. It is best to call them out and not take chances!

    Go…you made my day! (sorry)

It sure seemed like he knew you…(and now it turns out) he might know you too well!

I’m glad it turned out this way, as we haven’t had a problem like this for well over a year…well…except for Blue Fleck…but he’s manageable.

Welcome Mic! Please feel free to pick on Go as much as you want…we’ll enjoy it!

James I dug this hole plenty big enough for a couple guys

If you see me limping around for awhile, don’t worry about it, once I can dig my foot out of my mouth I’ll be fine. Doc said it should only be a couple days

If his aunt married into the family, her brother would not be his uncle…
