Moores Bait ….

Moores bait has Shad! They just got some fresh Gizzard Shad in this afternoon. They are of the 3″-4″ variety. I believe he is getting about $2/Dozen(13-14) for them.. that makes for a really inexpensive evening of catfishing with great bait.

They also just got in a new rod order and some other supplies in. The bullhead tanks are full and looking good too!

Enough of talking about it for me… I’m taking my shad and going fishing!

I just got back from the test run on the fresh shad… they worked well. I was out with Bob and Richard Moore for a couple hours, Manny dropped in late.. I believe the total count was 8 channels with most of them being over 5 pounds, and one just under 10#. Nothing fast and furious, but far better results than we have been seeing lately on the average.

It was a lot of fun watching Bob run for his *Boss* rod when the lagest channel of the evening smashed his bait. His rod was leaning against the fence and the handle was at eyeball level immediately, another 1/4 second and that rod would have beenin torpedo mode!

Thanks for the report on Shad FD, was curious to see how it would work, I predicted that it would have done well. Gonna have to give it a try.
I’m guessing you guys cut it up? Didn’t try it live whole did ya.
    thanks

They used it cut up, Larry. I guess Shad are pretty delicate and hard to keep alive. Bob’s Shad is frozen. Its a really good deal for $2… you get like 13-14 Shad and can get 2-3 pieces of bait from each one.

Dave says they are just as good as Sunfish, which are not legal to use as bait in MN (lucky WI guys!). So maybe this is the ticket!!!

Thanks for the Info Sherry, I knew they are delicate. I was wondering how Bob was keeping them? I almost stopped in the shop to check them out. I must have missed the frozen part in the earlier posts.
Glad to hear the success with them, can’t wait to give them a shot.
    thanks

Shad are really delicate in heat.. much like shiners. You scoop them up in a dip net and they already lost scales and are twitching in the minnow bucket… no way to keep them alive in this weather. They lose their color in about 2 minutes.

They dont kick much once you cut them in half anyhow

The fish are still biting on the shad. We spent a couple hours on the water this evening and had a steady bite out there. There were some respectable channels caught, and Carl(Mrkeb) got a bonus flathead for the evening. I expect a really good bite once this rain comes through.

Tyler got himself a chunky 7 lb channel this evening that gave him a pretty good fight.. and several slaps in the back of the head when he was holding it for a picture. He cried when we were done tonight.. he wanted to fish longer. Theres always tomorrow

    Yep! The Shad works!

    Counts for last night:
    Tyler – 3 Channels
    Dave – 1 Channel & 1 Sheephead
    Sherry – 1 Channel
    Karl (MrKeb) – 1 Channel & 1 Flathead

    Not bad!
Oh, and Manny and Jeretta were there too, for moral support.

Here’s Tylers new all-time record Channel weighing in at 7 lbs.

    You forget so soon!

    Jeretta… one 7″ bullhead on a crawler
Manny …. one 3/4″ (yes 3/4) sunfish.. I have no idea how he managed that.

    Nobody was skunked!

Picked up some frozen shad at Moore’s and headed down to the Miss to try it out. Got out there around 12pm was the first to show up so I had to wait for the other guys so I decided to cast a little with a 3″ power grub quickly caught 3 little bronzebacks . The other guys finally showed up so we cast out a few different options frozen shad, some sonnys stink bait, and nightcrawlers. Got a few hits on the shad right away and some on the crawlers but no fish

Still, it was nice to get out after a couple weeks of no fishing. It was the only time we could get out. I would have preferred to go in the evening but the guys had to go to a twins game.

Another addition to Moores bait shop..

TIGER RODS are now in casting and spinning models. The rods he has in are all excellent choices for cats and sturgeon. He has 3 casting models, and 2 or 3 spinning models. Wow those are nice rods… ugly stick finally did something right!

Didn’t someone just break there Tiger Rod?

One thing I’ve noticed about Mr. Moore over the last few months that I’ve known him. He listens to his customers and gets in the products that they want.
