Fishing rising water

Is the fishing for cats generally better when the water is rising and a little dirtier, or does the fishing get worse because of the water clarity? I’m thinking about hitting a local river, but we got some rain today that raised the river a couple inches, maybe a foot.

Rising water sometimes can turn the cats on. As far as dirty water it depends on how dirty. Usually doesn’t affect cats they can find food weather they can see or not.

I would agree. Nothing can be much worse than the low water we have been having.

On a small stream prone to floods, though, I have no frickin’ idea.

I’ve done very well on the Cedar in the past when the river is coming up quickly, fishing crawlers in current breaks. If there are channels in the break you’re fishing you know within ten minutes, and the bite, in my experience leaves no doubt as to what’s going on, rods going out the back of the boat. Send a PM if you’re looking for spots in your area, wisdom, I know a few.

I always try to get out if the river is coming up.
