First off I would like to thank Fisher Dave and Bob Moore for organizing this fun little event.

From what I gathered, it was a tough bite for everybody……except one boat

Larry Flatcaster and I ran into a good bite and ran away with the prize.

1st Flat: Caught by DTro 36×23 and 23lbs
2nd Flat: Caught by Larry Flatcaster 30×19 and 13lbs

1st Channel: Caught by DTro 32×18 and 13.10lbs
2nd Channel: Caught by Larry Flatcaster 27×16

Thanks to everyone for participating. Sounds like a couple more are in the works. I look forward to it.

I swear the coloring on that big flat during the release made it look like the biggest perch I ever did see!

    Nice fish!

I don’t know, looks a little bright to be after 7pm. And don’t flatheads get all mottled sitting in livewells for a couple of days?

I kid! I kid! I am a poor sport, what can I say? I like it when guys post videos up here.

    Nice job you guys!

Congrats Larry and dtro! Well deserved win.

Dave, hat’s off to ya for putting this together with Moore’s!

Damn Dtro. You caught both fish in the first half hour? I had no idea.

If there is a late season tourney, count me in. Damn August weddings have kept my line out of the water for over 2 weeks.

Congrats to all! This would not have been possible 5-10 years ago! What an age we live in!

In the left corner…Mr Larry Flatcaster and in the right corner…Mr. Dtro!

You guys sure made a great tag team!

But I would have been a contender had the favorite wife not called me home from the storms…which never came by the way…

Next time….and your little dog too!!!

I have to thank Fisher Dave and Bob from Moore’s Bait and Tackle for holding one of the best cat contests I’ve seen.

Holding a catch and release contest ensured the well being of the fish and the fishery.

    GOOD JOB GUYS!

By the way, Bob changed his store layout and it looks great!

It seems more open but still has all the tackle and bait a person looks for. Bob carries a new secret live bait for bass and muskies which no other bait store has for miles around…oh..shouldn’t I have mentioned this yet Bob???

Love the “thumbs up” at the end of the flat video Dtro!

The video of the releases are way cool.

Those to clips will help ensure this type of cat contest for the furture!

I rcently heard a guy say.. *just when I started having respect for a bullhead, this happens*..

*This* is referring to some of the metro live bait fishermen(lakes) targeting muskies with bullheads and its working… when the bass dont eat them 1st. There have been some really large bass caught on bullies lately. I have known of a couple sheephead caught on bullies this year to boot. I guess that just proves that everything feeds on bullies?

One of these days I might have to run over to Lake Harriet and try out float fishing for Flatties!

Bullheads are treats to big muskies.

I guess James! Who would of thought?

..and yes, that was me. When I learned of bh’s being musky and bass baits…my respect went down a notch.

Everyone knows what it’s like to try to keep a sucker happy. Some of the big ones that Moore’s have in stock are enough to get Fishing Machines pickling jars out. They are huge!

Why would a person take a chance on keeping a sucker alive when it’s almost impossable to kill a bullhead?…within reason.

    Hey Brian!
I think most people don’t like/are afraid to handle the little boogers. I sure didn’t until I got the hang of it. Now its no big deal.

I really should throw bullheads out on a big float when I’m fishing my favorite shallow walleye lake. You know them willy’s is eating them.

Because sometimes…… Just sometimes…… it Pays really big dividends. It is work to get them to transition to warm water.

What kind of reel are you using there DTRO? I just recently bought myself a Okuma epixor 65 baitrunner (courtesy of Moore’s bait) and I love it. Coupled with my 9 foot Berkley Glowstick that thing can cast a mile with just a flick of the wrist.

I think DTRO uses the Cabelas Salt Striker, which is the same thing as an Epixor EB50.

I went back and noticed I forgot to thank Dave and Bob for putting the tourney on. Well done. It all went smoothly and no fish were harmed during the running of this tourney. Pride yes. Fish no.

So you 2 stuck out the storm? It seemed like most of it was cloud to cloud where we were. It was either that or I was tired enough not to care much about the lightning. However, cruising through the cold rain with an open throttle was too much fun. I think I fear driving rain now more than lightning!

Sorry about that Mike. I was trying to get back before it really opened up on us, but obviously that didn’t happen! You should have said something, I would have slowed down.

    Would you quit apologizing!!!

I was just kidding around. I felt bad for you because at least I got to duck my head in my hood. Believe me, the last thing I wanted you to do was slow down! So it’s all good.

    The thought crossed my mind

I couldn’t do it to him though, after all it was his first time in my boat. Next time won’t be so easy. I’ll actually stay out in it

FD and lightning dont mix! If it was an approaching storm with cloud to ground lightning and you intended on staying.. someone may find you in your boat tied up with your anchor rope sitting at the access!

    Pug on the other hand…

You know, even if I stayed out in a storm when it was lightning and didn’t get struck, I would have to be carted off to the closest mental hospital…….again.

Nice fish dtro and Larry Mark “audemp” and myself found it pretty slow as I expected on the lower end of the p2. I will put up a picture of Marks fish tomorrow ( Sorry Mark) when I have my right cord to attach the pics. We fished a few different areas and one was even from shore but not much luck. I would have to say Mark had the warmer rod with a few bites but we olny got one taker apiece.

I was really thinking we had a chance. The night before ” friday night” Me and Dave “dsparrow” a new member made it out and he pulled up a 34″ flat that went 17 1/2 lbs. Man did that thing stink I had one earlier this year with the same smell…. dont know what it was from but he said his garage still smells Ill post a pic of that fish also

Thank you Bob and Dave!! I was a great idea… Mark thanks for swinging down!! we will have to do it again!

Lighting and a little rain isnt so bad…. I thought I was reading something in the bass forum for a second j/k Actually your odds are better in the boat than on the golf course if that helps

Well why didn’t you release it then!

    2 things….
A.) Odds are better that you would be struck by lightning or odds are better you wouldn’t be struck by lightning
B.) When it comes to lightning, I am not looking to increase my odds of not getting hit as much as I am trying to avoid being hit all together!
