Caught this one Friday while investigating a big rock pile I almost ran over…my first flathead

    (I think!?!)

I was fishing for smallies using a Perch colored DT10. I’m not sure who was more confused, the catfish or me! I already had it tied on so I figured I’d try it…fun! I saw what I thought was my crankbait skipping right to left along the rocks then I thought I was snagged but it felt a bit fishy…felt the thumping and figured it was a cat…not sure how big, probably 5 lbs…

    Looks like fun!

I’ve heard about a brian disorder in flatheads. They think they are a walleye or a bass and hit funny looking lures.

A “brian” disorder or “brain” disorder? Do I dare say nice looking fish? I guess rough fish can get a little confused at times!

Funny, I don’t remember personally lurking in the walleye/bass/musky sections here ever.

Nice to know the other fishermen are always “curious” enough to venture over here.

    Thanks for the comments guys!

Let’s say I was to actually try to catch another flathead on this spot…how would one go about it? Rigs/Location on the spot.

It’s along a steep riprap shoreline that drops quickly into about 18ft of water. This rock pile sits along side of the shoreline and abruptly comes up to a depth of about 2-3 ft. I would say it runs out about 25ft perpendicular to shore. It’s steeper on the upstream side than the downstream side.

mplspug – it’s all in good fun! No disrespect intended. I’ve snagged my share of flatheads and yes, I would have to agree that they do put up a hell of a fight. Just having a little fun!

Dartman, I am glad you didn’t get all huffy with my remark either. Mine was in good fun too. I don’t care what you fish for, as long as you fish, you’re a good man in my book!

I just like ribbing people who don’t normally post here. Them and Brian.

Northstar you have 2 choices. Snoop around and search the cat forum or take me out to the spot Most people will suggest you choose searching the cat posts.
