Have you ever wondered why Rapala’s digital scale is label 50 lbs when it will weigh over 50 lbs??

I was putting a scale to a fish the other night and notice something wrong with the hook on the scale…

Dan Thiem’s 57.7 flattie…started bending out the hook.

Note to self…things start to break above 50 lbs!

PS…if you look closely on the floor and Dan’s shoe on the right side of the picture…Dan was the second person this year to get.. “cat pooped” on……and love it!

I had bought one of those scales shortly after I seen them in the stores.. it worked great. I never seen it with a reading over 50 pounds on a fish.. but the scale did bottom out and not give us any reading on 2 different fish.

I never tested the scale to see what the max scale weight would have been.

This year, one of those *Zebco Deliar* scales would have me pretty safely covered

I just purchased a 110 lb scale that has a built in tape measure (5 ft) so you dont have to worry about forgeting to measure your fish. The greatest thing is it only cost 30$.

Here is a link top notch scales

What happens when 5 foot isn’t long enough!

Aud…have you checked the accuracy of these?

I know we don’t need them government certified…but I like mine within a pound.

I tested mine upto 50 lbs with exercising weights and it was within a pound. I also have a spring scale up to 110 and did the same thing with that.

Anyone want to buy a slightly used 50 pound scale with a bent hook??

Id say that company is pretty reputable as they produce scales for jewelers as well as crane scales. I figure they would have probably been run out of the buisness long ago if they were not accurate. I will verify the 110 lb scale on something that I know the weight of just to make sure.

My scale goes to 20# and that’s because when I catch one, people always say, “You’re going to weight that little thing”!
