I started a catfish channel on freenode for anyone interested in IRC. If you are, you can follow some basic starting points from a thread I started here:

    Stop by and say hello.

    Machine Head,

I’ve deleted your link to the IRC info…for the sole reason I couldn’t edit it smaller (not sure why) and it was goofing up the width of the page.

    Thanks!

    EDIT:

Well, I went and created #catfish on freenode this morning. Anyone that would like to try realtime chat is welcome to join and see what it is all about.

There are several IRC clients available, some free, some not.

Free versions include: Chatzilla, a Firefox addition.

    https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/16/

X-Chat (this is built using the binaries that are open & GPL’d)

    http://xchat-win32.berlios.de/?page_id=6

    Commercial clients include:

mIRC. A very robust client that has been around forever.

    http://www.mirc.com/

Klient. This is probably a little easier to set up than mIRC and has a lot of configurability also.

    http://www.klient.com/download.php

At any rate you can join after installing on the above clients (or one of your choice) by clicking here:

    irc://irc.freenode.net/#catfish

Note: before you can join, you need to register your nickname – see http://freenode.net/faq.shtml#nicksetup for detailed info.

BTW Brian, did you catch state record lastnight?

IRC is Internet Real Time chat.

In other words…it is as fast as you can type and hit enter. And a great time waster.

Forums have a certain amount of lag and are more made for long term. IRC is just like a phone call, well, with a keyboard.
