Hello I have just started taking up chasing flatheads this year and have had a little success. Only have been out a handful of times so I am constantly learning what to do and what not to do. One thing I struggle with is locations. I know of a few spots, and a few spots I haven’t tried yet. They look good, but I just haven’t pulled the trigger on them yet. I was wondering if you experienced cat chasers usually fish certain holes early in the year and certain ones later in the summer?? Or do you typically fish the same spots all year long? I was just wondering how much the cats move, as far as are they located need log jams and stuff now or will they move out to the wingdams more since the bait is moving out that way??? This will help me try new spots and eliminate some. I caught fish early this year in a couple holes, but I don’t know if the fish will still be there and would like to maximize my time on the water since I only get out a few times a year to chase cats. Thanks for any help.

Not that I have been out near as much as I like yet this year, I change things up. The first few times I get out I like to hang around there wintering holes. As the water temps come up, and the water level and flow drops, I look for sloughs with downed timber in deep holes with some current. Wing dams can also be very good for me this time of year. There are some nice wing dams on 8 that also have timber snagged up below the scour hole. These are becoming some of my favorite spots to hit.
Just a few things worth looking for on pool 8. Also don’t forget about the Black River, there are some nice cats hanging around the humps and bridge pilings.
I was on pool 7 a few weeks ago. I’m for sure going to have to spend some time on that pool for Flatheads. Wats and I found some stuff that had big cats written all over it. Not near enough time in a life time

Good luck chasing the big one
