Softshell turtle caught by me last night. Probably weighed about 8-10 pounds. Hooked her in the front claw but was able to remove the hook. She swam away and came back to check us out a few times later in the evening.
Softshells are pretty cool turtles. I wonder if she was looking to come to shore to lay eggs?
I saw a baby one in the same spot about 2 weeks ago. It hit my cutbait like a fish, then I thought I was dragging in a stick or something. When it got near the shore it really started fighting.
Awesome creature, though, the spines on the front of the carapace look pretty nasty.
