I have nevr been down to the confluence of the Vermillion/Mississippi. Can I fish it from shore? I was thinking of heading down there tonight and I don’t have time to use the boat.

    Thanks in advance

I’m not sure how you get there without a boat…but there’s a ton of bank fishing going on in that area.

    Don’t know lately though.

    Thanks Brian

I just got a phone call from a buddy and he asked if I wanted to go chase cats on pool 2. He will already be on the water when I get done with work, so it will work perfect. No having to get the boat or try to figure out if I can get down to the confluence. I will post tomorrwo how we do.

I haven’t seen anything huge but I do have two flatties over 20lbs and 1 that went 37. I know these are big fish, but I also know that flats get alot bigger. I had one fish 2 yrs ago that completely schooled me. I had the biggest bruise on my stomach, we pulled anchor and chased this fish for 15-20 mins and not once did I ever have near the surface. I was in complete shock over the power this fish had

Brutes! None of that goofy jumping and trying to throw the hook. It’s a battle of attrition and finesse. That’s why I like catting. And everytime the clicker goes, you don’t know if this is going to be an epic battle!

Ding Ding Ding we have a winner! That’s exactly what keeps me going back again and again. I wish my alarm clock was a clicker on an Abu 7000, I would never be late foir work again. That has to be one of the most beautiful sounds known to man!

How often has anyone been schooled by a Fish.
Just curious about those of us who “foolishly” thought they would never get schooled or spooled.
    Tell us a story

I had one the other night hit the surface about 30 ft from the boat. It was the same fish that took my rod. I have never had one do that before. It surfaced and rolled then took right back off to the wood. Fought like a mad man but different than any other I had caught before. Must not have been its first time and it wont be the last…. I am planning my revenge

Topwater for flatheads? That would be thrilling. Seeing a 2lb smally hit a top water always startles me, I’d probably wet my pants on a 20lb cat

Same thing happens to me when a minnow splashes in the bait bucket…

I once had a run so tasty I set the hook before engaging the break. The bird nest was so large and nasty I had to cut and respool.

I have seen 10 lb channels fight on the top, but generally only when shore fishing.
