Its been about 5 years since I lost a rod but we broke that streak last night. Me and a friend were out and had just landed a 26# flat. I unhooked the fish set the rod down and tossed the hook over board so about a foot was in the water. I usually do this so you dont have a 10/0 laying around in the boat. Well I set the fish back in and turned him up stream and let him go. Well the fish turned right around down stream and bolted right into the hook. See ya later rod and reel That thing took right off with the fish.. I just hope it didnt get much hood and will let loose near the spot. Ill be out there tonight dragging some spoons or weighted trebles

Heres the SOB right here I have a bounty out for this guy!

Sorry about the rod. I had I similar thing happen on Red Lake this past winter. I let a 22″ eye go back down the hole and it snagged my jig on the way down, took my rod reel right dwon the hole with it. So I’m standing outside the house ranting and raving about loosing a rod, I wouldn’t have been so upset except I make my own Ice fishing rods, and my buddy calls me in and he’s got the rod in his hand! I’m like what the XXXX and he said he got a bite was fighting the fish and when his jig came through the hole there was line wrapped around it. He grabbed the line started pulling and low and behold here comes my rod. We spent the rest of the weekend trying to figure out how exactly he snagged my line. The only thing I can think of is the fish that hit his line must have some how swam under or around my line or whatever it did and snagged my line. He lost the fish before it was anywhere near the hole, said it felt like a nice fish. I have also had a rod taken off the river bank one night, losing gear sucks

    Joe,

Did you launch at the 494 landing last night? I was out with Mike W and we might have seen you around 8-9pm…

Sorry to hear about the rod. At least you can blame it on the fish!

I almost broke that streak for you last year Joe!

I’m getting into the habit of placing the rods back in the rod holders and popping the reel into free spool.

Hope it wasn’t your St Croix Joe!

Joe, Walmart Coon Rapids has a couple of 6500C3s on clearance for $54. Not much of a clearance but it beats full price. Also a 7000 for $99.

Last year in front of a huge snag and high water, I got a couple taps on cut bait. I stood up expecting a few more taps and a small cat, the kind that I’d been catching all day. My rod and reel shot out like an arrow from my ridiculously weak grip. The fast current kept me from diving after it. I now employ a GI Joe kung fu grip at every sign of a bite.
