Anyone Fished Raspberry/Harriet Island?

For Father’s Day my daughter actually said she wants to go fishing with me. I am looking at the St. Paul area as I want to hit deep holes with current because most of the fishing will be mid afternoon to dusk.

I am going to scout Raspberry island and Harriet island, can anyone give me a heads up before going? If I can’t fish there, I will be hitting Lambert’s landing or South St. Paul. Lambert’s has a lot of snags and SSP is further, so I am hoping one of the islands will provide good shore fishing.

Thanks in advance if anyone has info. If anyone wants to meet down there some where, PM me.

You didnt miss anything on the water. The only sound besides Mr Moores Clicker giving line to the mass of cotton and leaves on his line every few minutes was Ralph Wiggums clicker sounding off in a way that tells you a fish just grabbed the line again that is smaller than the bait.

I sat there and listened to overloaded clickers breaking the sound of the 3 power pro lines humming in the current for hours. Conversation was nearly non existant, and you could almost hear the depression getting thick in the air.

The highlight of the trip is when Ryan’s lawn chair nearly tipped over in the back of my van(his seat) when I made the sudden right turn to get a He-Man sandwich at SA.

Thats enough fishing for me until… this afternoon!

Just to follow up, Raspberry Island seems to be a decent spot. I don’t know about pre-spawn cats, but I will probably hit it again after they start eating after the spawn. I may have been better off fishing from the pier off Harriet. Raspberry Is. is a nice little magratory spot with deep water and current on both sides of a shallow sand bar. I wish I had given it more than a little over an hour. I may have had 3 runs, but when I didn’t feel anything after reeling up the slack, I assume it was the current. It may have paid off had I fished it into dark, but that’d be a little scary with my daughter in tow.

It’s a little daunting, because to get down to the sand bar, you have to decend a cement slope. But I never bit it, even carrying the cooler with flip flops. The area is used for concerts and what not, so if you go, have a plan B. You can drive onto the island. There is a road to the point to load and unload your stuff, but park in the lot. The Park Police will make you move your vehicle. The upstream tip is priate land.
