I ran into an acquaintance this morning. He showed me pics of three flatheads in excess of 40 lbs that he caught yesterday. He was using “baby shrimp” for bait, but stated that it really did not matter what you put in the water, the flatheads are killing it. The biggest fish I have head of so far this year is 66 lbs. Big fish. I am going out on my once or twice catfish excursion tomorrow morning. We are chasing spawning channels, we should catch them. Might post if I remember.

Please tell me that it was “live” shrimp at least. That’s just not fair!

I’ve heard of a few people using shrimp around here…

…I just haven’t figured out how to keep the drawn butter warm yet…

Good luck channel catten…we’ll help you remember to post the pics!

Maybe this is old news. Back in my catfishing days on the Missouri river we used shrimp a lot. We’d buy a package from the store on Thursday, throw it in the back of the pickup to use on Sunday. Boy was it ripe by then. Didn’t want to get any on your hands for sure.

I love using shrimp for a bunch of different species on the river, especially channel cats, but I have never heard of or seen someone catch a flathead on shrimp. It’d be good to know that flatheads liked some shrimp appetizers with their bullheads. Hmm, maybe I’ll make a bullhead shrimp kabob with their stingers next time I go out! Couldn’t hurt!

Might as well appeal to as many senses as possible!
