Was out tonight fishing the Mississppi where Shingle creek flows in. For those not familiar, this is in North Minneapolis at about 42nd and Lyndale.
After moving around quite a bit (fishing from shore, haven’t brought the boat up from the Southlands) we settled on a great spot right where the creek flows into the river. During a magic 10-15 minutes around 9:30, we caught a small cat, a dogfish around 5 pounds and a nice 6 pound channel (caught by me of course) on cut suckers. I would have a picture for you, but my headlamp had died and the camera phone has no flash.
The larger channel was caught about 1 foot away from an ancient stump at the mouth of the creek. It hit like a freight train, my pole almost went in the water.
A good outing in all, the only casualty being my thumb. I got a serious case of ‘catfish thumb’ from holding her. I guess I still want to hold fish like I did in my previous life as a bass fisherman!
