I saw these rodholders on another site and they look really nice. They’re just made of PVC pipe, so they’re cheap.

I don’t know if I would trust my rods in pvc shaped like that??

I’ve forgotten to turn the clicker on and those holders take a beating. Maybe bank fishing.

    Just MO.

Oh, Brian, always the pessimist (or is that optimist, thinking you’ll be catching fish that would snap the rod holders ).

I’d have to mess around with it, but PVC that thick would be pretty darn strong. Maybe I’ll do some thinking and tinkering to see what I think???

    Wiggam,

The fishermen and women who fish the Milwaukee river at the lake front use those type of rod holders almost exclusively. I personnally don’t because I never knew where to find them but I know they hold a rod well when a 10 to 15 pound salmon is spooling ya.

They usually use some kind of bracket or c clamp to attach to the railing here. The cool part about fishing that areas is when the Army Corp of Engineers put the railing in, they placed 4 inch strips of 1/8 steel on each rail so fishermen can clamp their rod holders “like the one you show” right to the rail.

Should hold up well for all you catfishin folks and closet catfishers

    Thanks for the input, Diesel.

On a side note, I see you’re from Menomenee Falls. I lived in Germantown for a few years when I was younger. Small world

One thing different I do notice since I looked at the pic again is that you have a bolt through the bottom on that one. The one that people use on the lakefront look like someone used a router or something to make a slot so you could adjust the angle for the rod holder. A little different but makes a difference when setting up the rod.

I guess I see the thickness would support a rod if the fishing is done straight back. I was thinking if that holder was mounted on the side of my boat and fishing behind the boat…it would swivel on the one screw holding it down. I’m not convinced that a flatty pulling it sideways wouldn’t break it.

Again if the rod bent straight down…it looks like it might hold??

Great design for …small fish as diesel discribed…

I agree that they could be inmproved upon. If I make some, there are some tweaks that I will be implementing. For one, a more sturdy mounting system. Also, possibly bigger PVC pipe and a sturdier slot area on top where the rod rests.

I just liked the ingenuity and think it’s a good starter point.

I know how much you like my other rod holders, Brian I’d make them on par with those

    Those other rod holders..

I was serious the other day. I’ll take 6. Although I should measure my boat…and I’ll have that back Monday.

Make them out of metal pipe

That would work if I had access to tools to cut 4″ or larger metal pipe. I’d also be a little worried about what the metal would do to my rod grips.

Wish I could do some cattin on the Miss. Only did it once that was in college just below lock and dam 18 on the shore. Didn’t catch a cat but the Keystone light next to the campfire went down fast

Do cat on the Rock River time to time, lots of fun. (don’t tell Bola and Z-man though).

Do have one cat story on the Miss. While in college a fishing buddy of mine and I were working for bass and crappies is a pumping station channel near a fallen tree. No action but then my buddies cork goes done. Set the hook into what he though was a crappie bite until it decided it wanted to act like a bull and head for the bottom. Fought it to 15 minutes on bass gear and never even saw it. Sure is was a very nice flathead or big channel.

    Ahh the memories!!!

One day I will get to the Miss again.
