    DATE:

    Friday, April 21st 2006

    Accomadtions:

    Wigwam Resort

3502 Four Mile Bay Dr NW

    Baudette, MN 56623

For reservations call with credit card info:

    1-800-448-9260

Mention Sturgeon Excursion for the deal! $20 plus tax per night

Because the “season” is closed for walleye, this is the time resort owners generally leave and most everything in the area will be closed. The closest restaurant will be in Baudette which is 12 miles away. Since the cabins have full kitchens, you might want to bring along your meals. Pictures of Sturgeon are not very filling…I’ve been told.

There bar will be open on Saturday night for anyone that would like to share their “One That Got Away” stories.

Update: The bar will be open Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Luke, the kitchen manager will have a bar menu avalable those nights.

    The Drive

From Mpls the drive runs about 6 hours depending on the size of your bladder and if your driver is willing to stop.

Departure dates can vary and if you would like to stay longer than Monday, please let the resort know when you make reservations.

    Clothing

This is northern MN in the spring. Please bring along warm weather gear as the wind off the lake can be…COLD!

    Bait

Spring Prices are in…unless something changes between the now and the trip, we have a cost of $30 per flat courtesy of Hooked on Fishing in Rochester. Thanks MIKE!

Here’s the list of what I have at this time. 4/8/06

    Briank 2 flats

    Cris Tuckner 2 flats

    Ratherbfishen 2 flats

    Marty28 2 flats

    CatdadMN 2 flats

    Fishanytime 1 flat

    Deeplake 1 flat

    Holst 1 flat & 2 doz flys

    Flom 1 flat

    Mike W. 1 flat

    Slipsinker 1 flat

    Trout Guy – 2 flats

    Jeff B 2 flats

The flats of worms will be arriving via CatdadMn on Thursday at Wigwam. Ask at the resort office. They will be in there bait cooler.

Please, if possible I would like to return the worm flats to HOF.

MN fishing license is all that’s needed. There will likely be a number of CO’s in the area for tagged fish recording and to make sure they all go back in the water. Make sure you stay on the US side of the imaginary line!

    Tackle

Heavy bass equipment will do but muskie / cat stuff will help you land these fish a little quicker. An average day will be 20-30 fish per boat with most of them running in the 40-50 inch range. The season is catch and release only. Terminal tackle is not quite what you would expect. I like small hooks made of very strong wire. 2/0 is as large as I go. 1-3 oz weights will be plenty. These fish are quite easy to catch so dont worry about being a sturgeon expert.

Side Note: I’ll have extra Gamakatzu 2/0 octopus and 2/0 circle hooks along with 1.5, 2 and 3 oz no roll sinkers for sale.

    Fishing Area

As far as fishing area we will be fishing in four mile bay. From the wigwam to the fish is about 1/2 mile. The boat traffic is not bad that is why we wait until the walleye season closes to do this I personally leave my boat in the water at the wigwam docks and have never had any problems. Just remove your rods and reels and the end of the night

Remember, you don’t have to be a member of this site to join in the fun. Everyone is welcome.

To order worms or for more information, click on my webpage link in my sig file and either call or email me.

Might want to bring along a cheap cooler to put any left over worms in. This way we can get the flats back to HOF. THANKS!

Accrding to Wigwam, we have 40 reservations! THAT’s a lot of eelpout!

A number of people asked where are we fishing from Wigwam.

The answer is, when you look out the front doors of Wigwam, look for the boats between 250 yards and 1/2 mile away.

Also, the worms will be in brown paper bags, because the flats don’t have covers on them. This will keep them stay IN the containers.

Your name will be marked on the bags at Wigwam along with the amount due and number of flats in the bag. Please pay Wigwam for these.

    Did I mention I’m ready to leave…NOW!

    I am with you Brian.

I am working part of the morning tomorrow and when I get home The Better Half should have the truck packed. All I have to do is hook up to the boat and we are out of here
