I know this is a little early, but I’d like to offer room in my rig for anyone making the trip. I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota which can carry one other person very comfortably and two if you’re willing to ride in the extended cab part. I have a 16 foot Lund Predator with three seats so I have room for two anglers in the boat. I have no idea how to fish for Sturgeon on the Rainy so we can all learn together or something. I live in South St. Paul.
Rootski
That’s great Rootski! That’s what we need to get everyone up there that wants to go…that doesn’t have a boat or a ride. I hope more people follow your lead!
I got confirmation that ol Denise(dennis flom)(icatchbigcats) is making the trip as well, so that will be 5 silly wallnutters going
CA
Hey guys, I am 100% I can make it now. I havent been able to log on for a few weeks because of some computer problems but we figured it out. I will be riding up with Rootski “thanks agian Steve” and hopefully land a few monsters
Here’s a sturgeon teaser for you!
This should give you an idea as to what to expect!
When the DNR boat pulls up, notice the tag on the back of the sturgeon. This fish was just over 46 inches and 21 years old.
FISH ON!
(Reposted with expressed written permission. Thanks Rick!)
I’m in for this one folks! I’ll volunteer as the official photographer and official Canadian language translator for the trip. I can bring my boat or jump into an open seat if available. Good times ahead…

Obviously you’ve not been around DeeZee and I when we get together.
My wife is making me sign our living will prior to making this trip being that Holst is coming! Cannot imagine what kind of bodily we could muster up with a 15 foot fly rod!
All kidding aside… this is going to be a good time!
Brian,
Do you need money for the cabins right now?
Steve, it’s funny you asked that question! I was just working up your bill.
Ambulance $900.00
EMT 2 @ $600. $1200.00
Hare Traction Splints $400.00
Advil 2 @ 1.00 2.00
I’ll ketcha at the GTG…unless you get into a card game with PUTZ first.
Called up today to get a cabin. There is still some rooms/cabins available, but not many!
That’s great Marty!

Mention Sturgeon Excursion! $20 plus tax per night
Because the “season” is closed for walleye, this is the time resort owners generally leave and most everything in the area will be closed. The closest restaurant will be in Baudette which is 12 miles away. Since the cabins have full kitchens, you might want to bring along your meals. Pictures of Sturgeon are not very filling…I’ve been told.
There bar will be open on Saturday night for anyone that would like to share their “One That Got Away” stories.
As Catdadmn stated above, a number of us will be leaving the Mpls/St Paul metro area Friday morning. The drive runs about 6 hours depending on the size of your bladder and if your driver is willing to stop.
Departure dates can vary and if you would like to stay longer than Monday, please let the resort know when you make reservations.
Here’s a video of what you can expect.
Both will be making the trip. A few rods and quite a few Homebrew!!
