The summer of 2005 was a great year for meeting new friends and getting a little catten in too.

These are just a handful of the IDA folks I was lucky enough to share the boat with this year (and my ugly mug of course).

Here’s a few of my pics from ’05

36 lbs flathead on cut sucker, Mississippi River “pool 1”

28 lbs flathead on live sucker, Pool 2 on 8-16-05

37″ 25 lbs channel on cut tullibee, Red River at Lockport on 9-17-05

’05 was a great year, my best year cattin’, hands down! Had a blast fishing with friends, both old and new, learning a few new tricks, tippin’ a few, and of course, catching some fish. One can only dream of what ’06 may have in store

2005 was a slow flathead year for me on the St Croix River. I started chasing cats on 4 April and prior to catching this fish I had been out 37 times and had been skunked 14 of those times and had only boated one other small flathead from the St Croix all summer. When I fished Pool 3 I could manage a few flatheads but the St Croix really stumped me. I was catching channels pretty regular on the St Croix but I could not find the flatheads. My luck changed on 14 August. I got this beauty and she weighed in at 55#, was 48″ long and had a 29″ girth. I got her on a 7″ bullhead and she just hammered it. When she finally came up along side the boat she looked like some kind of monster. My other cut bait rod took off while I was trying to boat her. I finally got her in the boat and caught a huge soft shell turtle on the cut bait rod. What a night!! It made all the work worth it – I cannot wait for next summer.

This fish is my pride and joy… actully it was caught may 18th 2000 about 10 minutes b4 the rise of the full moon on a live bullhead. I fought it for about what felt like an hour (probably 10-15min) It was anawesome fish. I hurt my back holding it for the pics. My best friend who played football at Iowa state (o-line) had to go tippy toes to just get it over the side of the boat. Funny thing is it was our first time out ever flathead fishing in a boat…catdad had let us use his other boat for the summer and this was the first time we took it out. I had the spot booked marked in my head as a priority spot to hit since I got a boat… worked out great that night…cpuld have been the new state recordd.hmmmm keep in mind I ma 6’3″ and 265lbs in the pic

This is only a few of the fish from the 2005 season of mine. All of these fish are over 30#, many close to 40#, and the largest at 40.5# .. I’m still looking for that 60 this year.. but these little guys can keep a person busy and help overlook all the bullhead wounds!

    40.5# on Sylvania sucker…………nice channel

OH .. and there are no catfish in the metro

Uh, my flathead is bigger than that, as are some of the channels I posted. Although, I have had Tyler outfish me on occasion.

For the record, I’m 6’2″ and 240 lbs. Tyler is much smaller than that. Mine’s definitely bigger

In fact, are you sure that Tyler’s not just holding one of your bullheads, Dave
