Dogfish is a good idea. I used to breed aquarium fish (angelfish) with I was in college, and I also had a small collection of killifish. There are some native killis in Wisconsin and Minnesota:
The banded killifish ( Fundulus diaphanus ) is found in the the St. Croix drainage basin:
I’m not sure that the fins are right for a Killi, but the dorsal looked close and the general size/shape are correct.
October 19, 2005 at 2:12 pm #390566Brian, where did you get this fish? Did you report it to the DNR? If they are breeding, it’s a bad thing
It’s not a dogfish….keep guessing

October 19, 2005 at 2:40 pm #390581We have a winner! Blufloyd…are you just good at google? Or did you know what it was?
October 19, 2005 at 4:11 pm #390598I get them things in my minnow traps a little bit of everywhere.. I have always called them mud minnows like many other people.. I have no idea what they really are.. They do look almost exactly like a mini dogfish.. the scales are even similar.
I put on in an aquarium for a while.. was one of my favorite fish.. it kept eating the tail off my fiance’s favorite little fat fish she bought at the aquarium shop for $10.
