but remember they all get put back so you can catch them again . Ever sit and compare pics of all you catches to see if there may be any that are the same fish?
The only Flathead I have seen in awhile is the wifes.
It is still a great place to set my beer
Whoa – Bret. That was not a smart move. You just stepped on a land mine and don’t even know it. Hello, is there anybody in there. You might as well start chasing flats every night until freeze up – you will catch more tail doing that then staying home.
I’m always in trouble with the wife. I thought that is what true love was all about
As far as trouble, don’t believe what you hear
Bret…have you ever seen the movie “Dead Catfisherman Walking”?
Where should I send the sympothy card?
Back to the confidential spots issue….. I know Matt and Dirk fished this year but…. very few pictures. Have the site champs forgotten their knowledge… I doubt it. I haven’t caught one flattie this year. I only had one chance and a storm drove me off right after the baits hit the water.
This is why this site sucks now!!! One guy askes a question that is lagitimate and everyone turns it into crap. You guys think it all is cute but stick to stuff about catfishing DAMMIT!!!!!
This site sucks now! God, I hate that when that happens!
Feel free to enlighten us with your knowledge, and answers as to how we can change that. There are a few guys that have chosen, as a matter of principle in their own minds, that they would rather keep what they do quiet. I respect that. I do know that what little knowledge I may have imparted to said individuals may have helped in their early development as catfish zealots, was done so without any expectation of returned favors. I know for a fact, most of these guys have surpassed my abilities by leaps and bounds. But I and others have demonstrated that we will continue to help and advise wherever and whenever we can. It’s what I like to do.
Now, where does the sucking part come into play? I must be missing something…
Care to share some of you know-how with me EYE-GUIDE? I still have lots to learn about catten. Thou I know some holes I would LOVE to try out once I get a boat – just because of what I have learned from everyone so far.
As for thie site sucking?
Well, this is my 1001 post. I visit the site lots of times during the day as most of us here do.
So what, you want us to be a bunch of humorless, boring slabs of dead carp just lying around Whizz? Now thats boring. So here, I hand you my membership and make this 1001 post my last. All the other fishing web-sites have the same as this one does.
Sooooo know ones out fishing?
Bret…if your done with the book…sent it my way….you have my address…
Time for a new thread!
Hmmm…sucks?? I find this place pretty informative and some of the posters make it very entertaining.
Out fishing???
They are still biting, but the bite is getting inconsistant.
We picked up 3 flats this past weekend but nothing to brag about.
Here’s one I saw Saturday – have been moving so I haven’t been in the boat or on the computer much. Water’s just right at the moment and the next coupla weeks should kill. It was slow this night but we got this 31:
Matt – That fish is really an interesting color. It may be the photo but the fish looks almost a light green color. Looks like he almost glows. Look at this picture of my August St Croix fish and compare the color. Mine had a brown head and an almost black upper torso. Was your fish caught shallow? I’m wondering if he has spent a lot of time in shallower water hence the lighter color.
It’s so good to see a pretty cat again!
Thanks Matt and Steve!
Matt, have you found that in the fall they change to a differant bait preferance? Seems like in MN the fall bite is better with suckers than bullheads….I know…don’t rub it in…still lov’en sunnies in WI….?

Actually, it came from about 40 feet of water, but who knows where it spent its summer. I’d think that the substrate it spent its time in had a lot to do with the color, but I’m not sure how that works. Reminds me of a discussion I had long ago…
Anyways, this is a wintering hole, so they come out all colors. The other day I got this one:
Very yellow throughout. Lots of other colors including the ol’ mottled dark green. About three years ago I did a lot of thinking on their color and tried to find out what caused all the variation, but the result of my efforts was a more cluttered mental cupboard than when I started, so no answers here!
I think they are all beautiful!!
Especially dem yeller ones. Dare purrrdddy!!
I have often wondered that as well. I have caught them looking like dill pickles, and jet black like Steve’s. Had some yellowish, but none to that extreme. Pretty neat animal if you think about it!
I think it’s funny that we seldom see fish of that extreme color up this way.
My uneducated thought would be that it’s more of the food they eat and the tint of the water…than the depth. I know the more a trout eats shrimp/scuds the more pink it’s flesh is…but then again I really can’t see a color change outside the fish…
It would be interesting to dig into researching the Golden Cats of the ‘sippi!
