Looks like the old classic is finally being retired. But don’t panic. The 7000 Big Game is its replacement. I haven’t used one but I have a 9000 and its a nice reel. Anyone using the 7000 Big Game?

Dirk, do you know if the new 7000 has a true anti reverse?

Another 50 years and my 4 C3’s will be worth something!

I don’t know the answer to that one. I’ll try to find out. I doubt it will though.

No instant anti-reverse and no plans to have it in the future . Call your congressman!!

The instant anti-reverse in abu reels arent all that heavy duty.. not made for 80 pound power pro.

Just to think.. the reels are specificly designed for the strength of line specified on the reel?

I wish they would make them for superlines.. have the levelwind lay the line differently so we wouldnt bury line into the spool on occaison, and an antireverse that would handle the heavy line.. the clutch bearing alone would probably weigh a pound.

7000’s will always be a great reel.. but one has to wonder what reels of the future will bring.

I spoke with the Garcia rep at Joes Sporting Goods on Saturday. Steve, I forgot his last name…

From his understanding the replacement Big Game 7000 will have a new graphite drag which will allow the fisherman to tighten down the drag even more than the 7000C3.

Personally, I am very happy with the 7000cC3’s just the way they are…even if they don’t have a true “instant” anti reverse. (But this would be nice!)

There is nothing like the feeling of having the drag tightened as tight as you can get it and feeling the strenght of a big flat pulling out 80 pound Power Pro like string on a yo-yo!

According to Steve, Garcia has a new COO and is changing the product line up after years of seeing …basicly the same old reels.

Stay tuned for more changes in the Garcia line up!

    Brian-

I believe the entire Garcia line-up is undergoing a “facelift” soon.

I picked up 2 6500C3’s (2005 model) at the ice fishing show for $39 a piece. Now if that ain’t a steal, I don’t know what is! Retail on the 6500s is around $75 I believe.

I was planning on going with 7000’s but I absolutely couldn’t pass up that deal. I still think I’ll add a couple 7000’s to the linup but they have to match my new 6500’s.

    That is a steal!!

Sounds like they didn’t have any 7000’s there…I’m just going to order mine and get it over with.

It’s going to be interesting to see what they can do with a simple workhorse reel to make it better.

Guess we’ll have to wait and see!

Wow, that is a steal of a price. I missed the show not remembering it until Sunday after it was too late and I already had plans for late Sunday afternoon and evening with a couple of my kids and families. I know this is the wrong forum for this but isn’t there another ice fishing show coming up or am I mistaken?
    Thanks, Bill
