    (Brian, have Deb turn away!)

Trolling some of my cat haunts for walleye last night, and scored a channel on a Shad Rap.
One thing was really weird though, snakes EVERYWHERE! When I would drive close to shore, they would come out to see what I was! Ish!

Bet Bobbers won’t even open this post cuz it says snakes in it That would be really ishy to have them all around, don’t think I’d leave the boat. Do they even try to get in the boat?

I’m guessing you must be on pool 3??? Why does pool 3 have alot where I don’t see or hear of that problem on pools 2 or 4??? And no we don’t want them on pool 4 so you may keep them all.

    Thanks, Bill

Every year around this time, Pool 3 explodes with snakes! Why? I don’t know!
For that reason, everyone should stick to Pools 2 & 4
I’ll take care of things up here.

    Bill,

We’ve got ’em on Pool 4 too. Had a 3 footer sunning itself on the dock two weeks ago.

    Snake repellent.

Caution: Do not use if snake is IN BOAT!

For those of you that may be “Humor Challenged,” this is a joke.

    Tuck!

    These snakes are NOTHING!!!

You got to fish the Texas ponds where they are full of cottonmouths!!!!!!! You can’t put a stringer of gills over the side of the jon boat, otherwise they will clamp on them. It gives a guy the “shakes” when you pull your stringer of fish out of the water and there is a 4 foot snake clamped on one of your sunnies!!!!!!!!

    Or,

You channel cat fish at night and have a little fire going on. You get a bite and run to the shoreline to grab your rod, only to find a watermocassin at your feet!!!!!!

    OR

You wade the small rivers, looking for bass. You hit a deep hole and decide to walk the grassy shoreline, only to walk into a 5′ diamond back rattle snake!!!!!!!

We used to take pellet guns with us and shoot at them, because they (yes water mocassins) would swim up to the boat………

Scare the crap out of ya!!!!!!!

Note to self, do not let Tuck bring snake repellent in the Cliner!!

I’m such a tough guy, I’m betting you could get me to squeal a little if I saw one, let alone a bunch of them.

I think a 22 with some birdshot would do less damage to the boat!

Last week down here in Ioway, at pleasant creek, I was trolling for eyes and I caught glimpse of a snake heading right for me. I sped up, and so did he, but he got in the slack pool behind the boat and tried crawling under the motor cowl. ISHH is right, I got the net and had to knock him out of there. I’m glad no one else got to witness me standing on the back seat banging on my motor screaming for dear life, lol. Little devils must be looking for a warm place to curl up for the winter months.

Tuck, are you trying to say: Only fish allowed in the boat-NO SNAKES!!! ? NO holes either-boats float better without them.

Gary-spent two summers as an MP in Alabama. That’s where snakes and I developed our love hate relationship. How about a 6′ Timber Rattler? We got one the first day out! Right after our snake awareness class! The dude giving the class was still in the area when we had the encounter! We killed it, and this guy said it was the largest TR he has seen EVER!
Anything that can move like that with no arms or legs (Or Fins!) I want nothing to do with!

There was a post here recently about water snakes. They do try to get in the boat! No kidding! I took a picture of a 6 footer last summer!

Anyone have any suggestions where I can take my wife catten…NOW!

I’ve seen them on the croix too, but not as close…athough I’m sure if I trolled the shores..they are there…

Tuck, “love hate relationship”? Not here…it’s all hate! They don’t scare the bejeebers out of me as they did when I was a kid…if I know ones there…or a distance away…but the first sighting of one climbing on board…and someone’s going to be leaving…hope it’s the snake!

With the cooler night air and the warm(er) water those boys will be out looking for heat….and I hope it’s the heat of Tucks .40!

PS While in chest waders in water up to your chest…slap your fly rod at a passing snake…personal experiance…I’ve done this twice….the first and the last time….

I would be willing to bet I could cast one of them critters a good 60 yards away from my boat if I kept a spare rod rigged up with a treble hook.

Wonder how they would work for bait?

I dont mind snakes at all to be honest..

I have had a fishing partner running away yelling profanities when a racoon came near while shorefishing, another full grown man scream like a little girl when a bug was flying close to his face(was not a scary bug).. I’m not sure I want to find out what happens with a snake in the boat.

    I’m glad you didn’t mention Chris’s name….

Everyone is afraid of something….some just don’t want to talk about it…some feel it’s a sign of weakness and some feel it just makes a person human.

    Todate my phobias are:

    Heights (after a certain point)
Snakes (as I’ll never hold one)
    Putz with Lutefisk in hand
    and
My wife…when she sees a snake and her hands are around my neck….

One thing that I find odd is that when fishing alone when it’s really dark, I don’t freak out. As a kid, darkness was not my friend. It just doesn’ bother me any longer.
