Since it’s not a great day for fishing (around here), I thought I would get a question answered.

How many of you catters use No-Roll sinkers and where do you get them.

Please post your reason for your answer or if you use some other type of sinker…what kind and why.

    Thanks!

    Here’s a no-roll.

Sometimes a depth charge is the only way to get’em…but most of the time bass work best…at least something eats them.

Thanks for the pic, learned something today
What weights do they commonly come in, or are made in, or are used? I would guess 1 – 8 oz. but who knows.

    Dave, they come in 1, 1 1/2, 2, 3, 4 and 5 oz

Most commonly used around here are 4,3 and 2’s in that order.
IMO 4’s hold most flat bait…but in fast water, sometimes 5’s are used. Then the slower the flow the smaller the sinker.

However I tend to hang with the 4 oz most of the year.

They are the cat’s meow for holding bait in one spot…cut or live.

    thanks Brian,
I guess if the bully isn’t 7 inches no need for extra weight to hold ’em down

I can see where they would hold the bait better. The flat shape of the sinker creats more drag on the bottom so the bait and current has a harder time moving it. Does it make much diffrence in fish sensing the resistance because the line is tight because of the pin that holds it? Like with the egg sinkers a person could put a small splitshot on the lower end of the sinker and the fish could pull it through just like an egg sinker. I can see thier advantage now. It looks like they might be more snag resistant too when it comes to hangups on the bottom.

I am not a big catman, but I do use them. Bret got me started using them and I think they work great. Of course, I don’t have anything to compare them to, but they hold the gills very good I get them from D&J Riversports in Onalaska.

Mossy…the “pin” is used for keeping a hole open when pouring lead into a lead mold.

It works just like an egg sinker…but won’t roll… NO-Roll!

I don’t use them yet, mainly because I hate ordering things online if I could just walk in somewhere and buy them I would.

Maybe the NEW baitstore.. on 58th and Lyndale in MPLS will have them when they open.

    Hey Brian,
I was just wondering if you use pyramid sinkers at all? I use them all the time and find that they don’t roll(not too much). They really work well with a sandy bottom.

Tony, Dirk pointed out the benefits to using no rolls when I first went catten. I’ve never used anything else because they lay flat…don’t roll around…and I would THINK, they wouldn’t get snagged in rocks as much. They just seem to be a good all around sinker…for cats and I wouldn’t want to carry two styles of sinkers around if I didn’t have to.

Have you used a NR? I can see a pyramid could have an advantage in sand…as they would “stick” into the sand, but I don’t recall having a problem with my sinker not holding…(using the right weight for the bait and currant)

Has anyone used both types of sinkers that could chime in?

I’m a big fan of no-roll sinkers. The only reason why I still use the pyramid sinker is because I have butt load of them. I used them all the time when I lived out east while surf fishing. They really held good in the surf.

Right now I use the ones I bought in hastings but will be ordering a batch of them from catfish connection for next year. Just got an order of hooks from them last week and love the prices compaired to what you would pay around here.
Thinking about getting a rod from them as well.

Fisher Dave uses them. I don’t know where he gets them, but I need to find them. They work really slick.

Hastings had the round pancake style with a metal ring on top. A little different from the ones at cfconection. They had 1-3 oz. I think I cleaned them out on 2 ouncers and they olny had a few 3’s left. They are going out of biz in the next few weeks so there not an option anymore. I never understood why they didnt get some good hooks for cats but they finally had some good sinkers. When I use suckers it seems there has been no need to go more than 2 ounces but I agree with the bullys I usually go to the 3 ouncers.

My catfishing box is now heavier than my walleye box and I am still adding

I couldn’t agree more Bush, there isn’t anyone place to get all the cat “stuff” I want locally.

Catten Addict found the 10/0 gammagatsu’s for me at Sportsmart and no roll aren’t to be found…around here.

Catfish Connection is good if you plan ahead 3 or 4 days and their prices are reasonable. Sometimes…mostly at night I’ll order over the net..but otherwise I talk with the nice little lady that answers the phone.

    Kathy right?
I had to talk to her also about my order…seemed to be a good customer service based company. They have some pretty nice stuff in there. The hooks I got(7/0 daiichi light chunk circles) have worked great. Not a swing and miss yet but then agian there really not much of a swing but batting a thousand so far . I have been using the 5/0 with cut for a few weeks and they have worked great also.

Brian-I am not sure what all sizes they make, but I know they have quite a few different sizes. I have 3oz and I know they had some heavier and lighter. So far, 3oz is all I have needed. Of course, right now the flow is pretty slow.

D&J River Sports has alot of different styles and sizes of NR sinkers Pan cake style is my favorite.

I love them because they keep my baits in place. 3-4 onze are the most common for me. I do have larger on hand, this is for holding larger baits. You can put a good sized gill near weeds, snags or a ledge and have confidence your bait will stay in place without rolling around, hence the name, No Roll.
