I had the pleasure of fishing with a fella I met on the banks of the ‘sippi a month or so a go.

It seemed like everytime he hooked or tried to hook a flathead..he had a break off. So I kinda nick named him Mr. Breakoff… from my understanding he’s had a few since then.

We set up on our first spot. It had wood, shallow, deep water and ROCKS…(thank you very much Whiskerkev! Didn’t work here, but it did later!) Natta fish was to touch our lines here tonight.

We moved to another location..no rocks here. We set up and Mr. Breakoff didn’t get a chance to open his Dew and his line was going out. I think I flustered him a bit when I kept asking what was taking him so long? He wheeled back on the rod…and…

    Nothing be air!

He said that he was sure that fish was at least 46 pounds..two pounds bigger than Dennis Steels fish of a couple weeks ago. I didn’t think he felt it…just got air..but I guess it doesn’t matter…it just was bigger then Dennis’s!

We yapped there for a while longer…noticing that there were falling stars out tonight. As long as you wore long pants and not shorts (like some people did) it was a fantastic night to be out….Moving on to our next location.
He was into his first hook up of the night…I had my finger crossed to help ensure that his line wasn’ going to break…it didn’t. He landed a nice little 10 pounder.
After watching some more stars fall…we moved on to our next spot.

This one did have a bunch of rocks…and Breakoff landed a small fish right away…He wouldn’t let me take a picture of him with it

Set the lines out again and WHAM one from just to the side of the rocks…Mr Breakoff handled this fish well. Once in the boat she came in at 26 pounds. She was going to be the last and largest for the evening. In fact, this is his largest fish todate!

Who is Mr. Breakoff you ask?

He’s non other than our own HANSON…one of the moderatores on FishingMN and a (can I say this?) lurker on IDA

Let me know when we are going again Chris! It was fun..and don’t forget about icing a few channels this winter!

    Here’s the release….

I believe the conversation went like this:

    Hanson: Briank he’s bitting me!

    Briank: Yeah?

    Hanson: YEAH!

    Well you know the rest!

    Way to go Hanson

It was only a matter of time. I’ve been present for a few of Hanson’s line-failure incidents on the Miss and I must say, it’s heart-breaking to watch such an accomplished angler have such rotten luck

I knew Mr. Breakoff (Mr. B.O. for short?) would have better luck sooner or later

Chris! I’m so happy for you!

I have been present for nearly ALL of his break offs. And I have to say, I was beginning to wonder if he didn’t have worse luck than me.

I’m glad the tides changed for you, Chris!

    That’s good Manny!

It worked out perfectly…just as we were talking about going home…that one last smoke….

Nice fish Hanson! Don’t feel bad about the nickname. I could easily be called Mr No Takers or Mr. Whiff.

I’m a bit concerned however, that you may now be a “former” moderator on FM. I’ve heard that moonlighting isn’t kosher.

Nah Joel…he wasn’t flirting with staff on IDA…just a user that posts stuff. Shouldn’t be any differant than when I was at the CAT’s on Ice gig with a ton of FMer’s on Horeshoe last year…

Heck, I’m going to the Red this fall and I MIGHT run into some FMer’s up there…or along the way…nothing wrong with that…

    I don’t have parasites….(yes I did open the door there, didn’t I )

I do give kudo’s to the Staff of IDA for allowing a post like this to stand. I’m not knocking FM here, because that’s their policy and it works for them…when you sign in…you agree to this.

Anyway…It was a very enjoyable time…had a nice fish to end a “falling star” night!

We were seeing them falling stars also…Pretty cool when you can watch that and still catch fish. Heck we didnt have to swat skeeters either last night

Nice catch Hanson!! The break of a curse usually is the begining of a hot streak.

    Nice fish Mr B.O. !!!

I am glad you finally got to put some fish in your hands that you hooked into… I thought I seen a tear in your eye one day when your line snapped for the 2nd time.. later I only realized you seen an unidentifiable insect?

    Nice fish Chris!

Thanks for the trip Brian. I know I had an awesome time.

I’m proud to be a part of this ‘community’ of great cat fisherman. I’ve met some great people this summer and have friends that I didn’t think I’d ever have. I’m glad you were able to share your ‘home’ waters with me Brian. Looking forward to it again sometime.

That 26lb was a long time coming this summer.

By the way, we pulled the goose egg on the Minnesota friday night. Quiet, Quiet, Quiet.
