Last winter at the end of an ice fishing trip, I met this fella coming off the ice. We started talking about fishing. If I recall correctly the sheephead were biting and he made the comment that they don’t even work good for catfish bait. That’s all it took, and we ended up talking cats. The next thing I knew he became a member of IDA and we ended up ice fishing to kill some time in the winter months until catten time came around. The topic in the fish house generally revolved around cat’s in one way, shape or form.
I had the pleasure of sharing my boat with him again last night.
We had many things to talk about and I’m going to share one of them at the risk of making a private conversation public.
He said that when we met last winter, he loved catten but didn’t have anyone to share his experiances with. When he talked with his family…basicly they would just change the subject. You know the feeling…non cat folk listen…but really don’t have an interest. He had a few friends that would go out with him, but really didn’t share the passion of catten that he has.
IDA filled this void perfectly. He’s made many new catten friends that he can fish with and many more that he can talk catten with through postings and pm’s. For this, he was very thankful.
When we came back to the landing at 1:30 am, I realized I didn’t have any pictures, no weights or measurments! I did however come back with something more important than a fish… a very good friend…and to me, that was better than a state record flathead.
There’s only one other outing that could possible equal a trip like this. If and when it happens, I hope I get skunked again!
Good Fishen!
