Once again it was my honor and privalige to fish with the Putz!

If you ever have a chance to fish with this guy…do it! But you might have to work a little…

We headed out on another fantastic Summer of 2005 night last night. Everything was perfect…scrappy bullheads and a few expensive suckers for bait. A sliver of a moon, skeeters and a slight breeze that died around 10:30…

‘Course our first stop was the now famous cottenwood. I didn’t want to fish there…but as long as I had to give the old man a tour…figured might as well…

My recollection of the night is a bit fuzzy as far as the bites, runs and fish in the boat goes…I have a tendancy to get a bit light headed around lye…

I do remember working my tail off to get Mr. Putz on some fish. Each place we stopped we had a run good enough to get the rod out of the holder and set the hook. Normally I don’t track the number of hit’s or runs…but Putz always brings out the best in me…

I believe, at the end to the night he had 7 (maybe 8) runs with 6 misses and two little baby cat’s it the boat. And a nice boat ride.

I’m not sure…but I think when he hollard “UFF-DAA!” when he set the hook…it scared the fish…scared the ‘ell out of me…I’m telling you!

We pulled the plug about 2…2:30 when the lights in the Prescot condos started turning on…He’s singing “Ode to Lutefisk” at 2 in the morning!

I had a great time…Mr Putz! We’ll do it again when we can get a biggun in your hands…

Ps…maybe we should have been trolling Raps to practice for the Gentalman’s Honor Cat Tourney?!

    Question:
Will skeeters drain the blood of a Lutey Eater?
    Simple minds want to know.

Looks like Putz is holding his midnight snack of Lutey.

No blood in a lutey eater, only omega 3 oil!

OK, OK. Let’s get the story straight here.

First off I can’t believe I’m posting on a catfish forum. Unlike what a different thread says, I am not yet a Cat Man as they humbled me well last night.

The first run came minutes after setting up and I hadn’t even got complete instructions from the captain as to what to do yet. Darn near dropped the rod in the water, didn’t set the hook hard enough (unusual for me), and didn’t switch the clicker off. All I felt was the hook popping out of the mouth. Oh well, chalk it up to rookie mistakes.
Second run was a little better. Had the fish halfway to the boat when the hook popped out. Not a big fish but would have liked to have seen it.
The third hookset ended up in a snag so don’t know what happened there.
The 4th and 5th bites ended up with small cats in the boat so now I’ve got it figured out. Right.
The 6th and 7th runs ended up with no hookset and the bait still on the hook. The excuse for those misses is that Brian is standing in front of the poles hollering for me to get them. I had two choices. I could go around him and risk being too late for the fish or go through him and possibly have to drive the boat home myself on that dark river. I chose the former and didn’t connect with either fish. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

I had a great time and the boat ride in the dark was great. Also had fun watching Brian pull the boat around with his 80# test while it was wrapped around that apple tree or whatever that was.

I would do this again but not by myself. But I have learned a new respect for you real cat guys staying up until the wee hours running around a dark river swatting mosquitos waiting for that big one. Brian was just breaking me in with the little ones which must be harder to catch. Something like trying to catch 6 inch walleyes on an 8 inch crawler.

Sorry about the long post. I must still be in the afterglow from the exciting evening. Or else it was all that clonking going on in the other end of the boat.

Have to apologize to you Brian as I was going to give you the rest of that venison sausage but my brain went dead when we hit shore. Did that cop follow you home when you turned on 21?

Fishermen never tell the truth and Lutey Putz is no different, lye is in his blood!

    O Lutefisk, O Lutefisk
    How I luff your aroma.
    O Lutefisk, O Lutefisk
You pute me in a coma.

That’s it! I’m bringing it out for bait next time. It’s gotta work!
Or else I could cook it at the GTG. Wonder what my cabin mates would think of me cooking lutey in there when it’s 90 degrees outside?

My guess is you won’t have cabin mates or a cabin for that matter once you turn on the stove!

OK…think about this for a moment…It’s 2 in the morning, your windows are open in your newly purchased condo on the river in Prescot…

From the fog and darkness of the river comes this noise that makes dogs howl at the moon and cat’s run scared….
