I got to catch the fireworks on the sippi last night off in the distance with the fiance, the kid, Ralph, and another friend.. it was slow for a while with all the commotion on the river.. I guess it was the day for all the pleasure-craft to be out.

We had a few runs, and a couple fish lost by about 11:30 pm, and a friend that stepped in a hole trying to get his big fish out of a snag, I think he broke his foot… this was all that happened until 11:30pm and then it was dead until…

1 am .. my clicker took off which resulted in a 27… Immediately following Ralph lost a decent fish at shore. Shortly after that my clicker went off again and it was a 10.. when I was fighting that fish Ralph’s reel started screaming.. I thought he hooked a boat going by.. nope, it was a fish.. snapped 40 lb test on the hookset(your knot choice sucks Ralph). After that was over.. wouldnt you guess… my clicker started taking off again in a big hurry.. I grabbed the rod and asked Ralph if he wanted it.. he said he didnt know how to work my reel, so I engaged the spool and set the hook and said “just reel it in”.. that was a 33 and Ralph’s personal best by far.

I just realized I missed another run before that 33 on my rod.. only a minute before.

I know there were a couple more runs, but I couldnt pay attention to everything anymore.. My line wouldnt last 5 minutes it seemed once I got it in the water with a decent bait… once the decent bait was gone, the fishing was done. We tried a couple industrial size pieces of cut sucker and that only resulted in a couple nibbles.

It was a good night at a new spot… and a good way to start the 4th of July.

I will add some pictures in a while.

Well… I didn’t get a chance to show them tonight either. But we had fun and saw some nice fireworks.

I just got back home… Dave is still out there with Ralph and Manny. When I left 2 cats had been caught (both by Dave), an 18 lb. and a 20 lb. Not too bad. Oh, and Tyler caught 2 Sheepheads.

I’m sure Dave will update ya when he gets home…

    Goodnight!

*Dave* just got home.. add a 27 to the other 2 fish.. I caught that one too… Manny did manage to lose a nice fish between naps, and Ralph kept me company all night and watched me catch fish.

Isnt that what friends are for?

It was slower tonight than last, but there were still fish there. I dont know what the major change was other than my bait was smaller last night.. suckers arent my favorite, but they seem to be outproducing the bullies at that spot.. at least very large suckers.. and a decoy here and there.

Pictures will follow sometime later today.

Mile 832.. the big fish are.. and arent starting back up.. its still tough out there with a good night thrown in. I caught one male, one spawned out female, and one female full of eggs tonight… the fishing is anything but predictable right now. 2 of my fish came in the daylight.. *last night*.. one about 7 in the evening?, and the other around 6:30 this morning… that was along outing for 3 fish.. the night before in the same area I couldnt keep fish from hitting my line within 10 minutes… 80% of the runs were at night then.

A person fishing that area before we got there caught a 5 INCH long flathead on a worm.. I dont think that one is a year old?

All I can say is get ont he water and hope for the best… but dont expect it.
