Huge Catfish……

That’s right, resident “ray of sunshine” daruoho has caught what appears to be one of the largest channel catfish of recent memory. The fish measured 44.5″ and weighed unofficially at 38 lbs. It is also important to note, that this was not a lake or reservoir fish…but a true river fish! A quick search of various current channel catfish state records indicates this fish would equal or exceed 2/3’s of them. Of the larger fish only three were true river fish…the most recent being caught over 30 years ago. Incredible. This particular specimen took a bullhead earlier this month. Wonder what he was fishing for?? Dan was fishing by himself so good pictures are minimal….the dog declined. The brute was quickly measured, weighed, photographed and released. For comparison purposes in the photo, Dan is 6’4″. Knowing Dan, I’m sure if you pmed him he’d be happy to tell you exactly where he caught it

One thing I will say is that you can stick that cut bait up your butt and use live bullheads in the 7-9inch range or sunfish I’ve got 3 channels this year and all have been over 12lbs

That is a big fish to wrangle all by yourself.

I caught an 11 pound channel on a bullhead last year. I must have been fishing your spot.

What a monster. That fish would probably be a record in Minnesota. Great job on releasing it Dan.

Definitely…no bullheads under seven inches will work, only magnums, oh and sunfish

Two 29″ walleyes for my buddy and I last year on big bluegills, and another that would have been ten pounds (or was, I should say) but alas, it was only hooked by the bluegill and not the hook so when my netless self went to land it — oops!

Two years ago it was big walleye night on bulls, caught several lunkers, including a wallhanger for my buddy Tom. Those were large bullheads too.

Yah I don’t know what I would do if I couldn’t use 7-9in bullheads of sunfish, I would probably have to move to the Peoples Republic of Minnesota cause you can pretty much use any thing for bait there EH!!!!!!

Dan, you should have kept that fiddler to use as bait for this guy.

    That is one beauty Channel!

BTW…In Minnesota, fishing with bullheads larger than 7″ or even big sunfish…not to mention more than one line can be done…You just might have to pay for the extra permit. The Game Warden will help you figure out what you owe right on the spot too.

The water looks a little chilly to be noodling there Ralph. Did you guys put him on a scale? Kinda looks like a heavy 50…
