The Spawn

Well friends.. I am convinced. The fish in my area are starting the spawn rituals. The fish have slowed down to nearly non existant in the last 5 days. Many of the fish that are still coming are hitting night crawlers and cut bait(Flatheads) by coincidence, and all the fish are coming up beat up.. nasty gouges on the head, body, etc… so either these fish are trying to feed in a barb wire fence, or they are doing something in preparation of spawning. Most all of the fish have moved off the sandy flats I have been fishing, to a steep rocky bank… the battle scars these fish are coming up with dont add up to just feeding in the rocks.

The small fish have all nearly dissapeared? All the fish that have come up seem to be mature fish. Maybe the mature fish chase the little ones away?

Its getting tough out there in this neck of the woods… try to make sure the hook goes home when/if you do get a run.

Had it not been for on baby 5er…we would have been skunked tonight. He was a pretty fish…no scares, markes or tatoos. But I had a report that it has slowed in one area on Sunday…then tonight is the slowest night I’ve had all year.

I’ve hear that it helps to talk to your bullheads…

lately, i have got a few fish realy scarred up also. for what understand, they (male and female) are making the nest and that ends up beating up thier heads alot! not really from territorial rituals i dont think. unless the eggs are layed, then the male is exteremly protective of the nest and wont even let the female near. although, i still think that the ocasional “bump ‘n grind” between cats can yeild some nasty scars.
