Could be an All-Nighter kind of night tonight

Big time weather change finally has arrived. This could be perfect catfishing weather. The weather forecast for tonight is mostly clear, low of 58 degrees, winds Northwest 6 to 9 mph becoming calm, moon phase is waxing at 59%. The St Croix is going up and up, today it is at 681 feet (normal elevation is 675.5′). I just looked in my journal and last year on 14 June 2004 I hit 10 channels on a clear, warm, calm night with a water level at 681.8 feet. With the weather and the water levels almost exactly the same, tonight’s just got to be a repeat with a big flathead in the mix.

There has to be a good pre-spawn bite going on. Could be an all-nighter kind of night and I’m blaming it on Mile High. He keeps catching big flatheads and then posting these great pics. I’m staying out until I get one like your last night’s fish, Tim. I got a bucket full of bullheads and the Twins game starts at 7:10pm. I got a buck says I get the biggest fish tonight – anybody else gonna anty up in the kitty tonight? Come On !!

JC…take a good look at Mile High’s eyes in his post from last night….I think his catten expeditions are taking it’s toll…my guess is he’ll be sleeping in CA’s arms my 11….

I am again in Sprinfield MO wishin’ I was fishin’!
I did buy new catfishin’ pants and shirts though! Teflon, and skeeter proof! Can’t wait to try them out!
Brian, kiss a flatty for me, will ya?
I’ll be thinking of you guys!
Just a note, when I flew in, the Missouri River, and Lake of the Ozarks were VERY muddy! The rain up north is taking it’s toll down here too!

Count me in, although I’m only out until 11:00 tonight. My big cat this year is 21 pounds so far, and I’ve even had Ben out in the boat and (gasp!) he got skunked! Maybe his luck is on the downswing this year, although in my experience, fishing luck sticks tight – my grandpa, myself, Ben now(?) we’ve always had it. Of course, as the old saying goes, “chance favors the prepared mind” or something like that.

Now I’m going to have to start preparing my own mind (and bait tank). Good luck all…

    Hey Brian!
Where are you and Dave going tonight? You don’t have to be specific. Just in general. Good luck!

Well, I couldn’t make it all night….our bite started late tonight…water was high and moving very….swiftly. I was a little concerned about trees but we didn’t have any near misses.

First fish came in at 10:30 FisherDave pulled in a bruiser that we didn’t photo or way. No too long after that, a 13 xx came in…with a little twist…I had my hook and fisherdaves in his mouth… Dave’s bait was a little further back than mine and he must have grabbed Daves bait and tipped toed up to mine. Did I mention Fisher Dave uses pink line? (I’m not even going to go there! ) We had two more runs before we figured we should pack up at midnight….

I wish I could have joined you guys but J.O.B. (just onemore buc) Maybe Sat night? Better not flash any pink though…that REALLY friendly guy might show up!

The Minnesota is junk too but a friend of mine caught a 46# last Sunday night in Mankato. High river conditions can produce I guess.

I got 4 channels (29″, 24″, 19″ 19″) on the St Croix. I planned on staying out late but I ended up getting trapped in the fog up by the High Bridge so I stayed all night. It was a beautiful evening until the fog rolled in. There seems to be a correlation between my fishing success and the Twins success. They sucked last night and so did the flathead bite.

As we were packing up…had all the rods out of the water except for one…and it plays my favorite music indicating a hit….I had a grand ol time getting ‘er to the boat…then up to the surface…

Please send your dollars to Brian(The Catfish Whisperer)k!

    Looking forward to tonight!!!!

I think there were a couple people that said they would be in for a dollar last night?? Thats a well earned dollar.

I had a good time out there last night.. it will be a memorable trip.. that is for sure…

That 1st fish I got was so big I thought it was my bullhead.. even at boatside.. then the 2nd tip-toed through the eddy with the my bait where the bite was undetectable.. then I get the *run*.. when Brian is reeling the fish in because it took his bait after mine.. my line was around a log somewhere which caused mine to go out as he pulled the fish in… I guess thats one kind of *double*?

    Thats fishing.

I think one of the highlights of the evening was being able to take the pictures at the end.. it was difficult because I could only see Brians headlamp and nothing else.. so it took an entire series of pictures to get a couple decent ones.. I dont think his vision was correct until he woke up this morning.. probably still seeing *dots*..

    Thats fishing.. nice flat Brian!

    Mile High…

It pays to sandbag fishing for channels in the beginning of the year…builds confidance in others …. I was taught that by MN FATS (a pro billards player for all you youngsters )
