Fished the St Croix from 6:00pm to 12:30am last night. Perfect night for fishing with warm temps and calm winds. There were almost no mosquitos either which was nice. Water temp was 73 degrees and water level was 679.2′ and rising (normal elevation is 675.5′). Moved around a lot early in the evening but couldn’t seem to find any cats. I found a pod of White Bass hammering a large school of minnows on a backwater point. I couldn’t resist and ended up catching 10 nice silvers on a Blue Fox No. 2 Super Vibrex Minnow. It was a fun diversion that made me miss the start of the Twins Game. I set up in a favorite spot to listen to the game and immediately got into a pretty good channel bite. Picked up a 22″ channel at 9:20pm; a 21″ channel at 10:00pm; a 24″ channel at 11:20pm; and a 20″ channel at 11:27pm. I was fishing one cut bait rod and one rod with live bait. I got all the channels on cut sucker. At 11:55pm I had a clicker screaming run on a large sucker minnow but he dropped it when I picked up the rod. I quit at 12:30am. Twins lost but it was a good game and they had a shot in the top of the 9th but couldn’t complete the rally. It was a great evening to be out.

Hi Mike. I haven’t been up that way yet this year. I was thinking of putting in at the Somerset Landing across from Marine-on-St Croix and fishing that area sometime this weekend to escape the boat traffic. The water levels keep chasing me off. The water downstream is high and getting higher. It looks like the islands will be under water again and I usually don’t have as much luck when it is this high.
