Mile 832 and I made a short trip to the cotten wood tree last night. Didn’t see any names so we plunked down the anchor and worked a snag. I couldn’t stay out too late, so once anchored we didn’t move.
This area has heavy current with a nice seam that goes into almost none moving water. The last time I fished it with Catten Addict, all but one run came from very close to the faster water. I put Mile 832 on this spot and I fished the “dead” water which was about 4 feet deep.
The three runs placed two fish in the boat…the first run that was a heavy fish snapped the 80 pound line a couple minutes into the battle. I’m guessing that the flat move close to something sharp as I felt him shake and the “ping” of the line break. Exciting, yet dissapointing.
The second fish coming from the exact same spot, ended up tipping the scale to 11 plus pounds. Not a big fish by anyone’s standards…how ever it was my best fish todate. Not because of the size…but because of the bet riding on it….
The third fish was Mile 832’s. This brute tipped the scale at 2.7 lbs…once subtracting the net and the 4 oz bully in his tummy…oh wait we didn’t net him did we Tim? Well, he was a cute little guy and let’s leave it at that.
What surprised me is that all fish hit in the same spot. The casts were identical…with in a few feet of each other. Normally we’ll get runs all around the boat…some from the deeper faster water ect.
Back to the bet,
Please let it be known that Tim, Mile 832 is now officially known as Mile High. Although he is a private pilot, this handle doesn’t have anything to do with the Mile High Club (I don’t think anyway, have to ask Bowfinhunter for sure )
Thanks for an enjoyable evening Tim. We’ll have to sign up on the old Cotton Wood tree again sometime!
Attached is a picture of the name changing fish. I would post the pic of Tim’s fish…but a misquito got between the fish and the camera…blocked out the fish completely….
