Got out Sat. morning for some cats. while the water is high and am able to get the boat back into the backwaters. Headed out early thinking that they would bite better before it got to light out, was on the river and at my usual spot, no bites. Moved up stream every twenty minutes to cover as much water as possible and the first cat came at 8:15, nothing big but a good eater at 19″.
By this time there should have been three in the boat but I brought out a buddy that is a walleye guy and he tried to rip the lips off the first two bites that he had. Took two misses for him to realize that you don’t have to set circle hooks.
At 9:00 picked up another buddy at the landing and headed back up, thankfully he was using nightcrawlers cause we were running out of the little cutbait that I had brought along and my other friend dropped the ball on the NC’s. Once he got a redfish the bite picked up and we ended up with a total of 7 cats in the well by 1:00 and were able to get another walleye man hooked on river fishing.
It is great to be out and not have to fight the boats on the lakes. There were more mallards and woodies than a guy could wish to see and the herons and eagles were flying around throughout the day. Doesn’t feel like you are two miles from the busy city.
