We are heading up to Pine City for some channel cat fishing next weekend. I posted on this once last year…but if you guys ever get the itch to see some new water, the Snake River has some Mongo Channels, and they are dumb as a tire, and will eat almost anything! I have caught them on frogs, suckers, and stink baits. These fish are very good eating in smaller sizes. I have caught three specimens over 20 pounds out of Cross Lake, and the Snake River confluence. They built a fishing pier right in town for shore fishing as well.
If you get the chance, head up there, and give it a try. I will be bringing up the digital camera. If we score, I’ll have pics.

Hey Eye-Guide, I’ve heard stories about the Snake’s 20 lb+ cats, but I really didn’t believe it. I’ve caught cats on the Red pushing 30 lbs, but nothing over 20 on the Minnesota or Mississippi. I think I better make a road trip. It sounds like there are some monsters up there. Are you fishing the lake or doing a float trip? Good luck, Vern

    Hey thanks for the tip.
I have heard about about cats at the dam I can’t wait to try them there.

We have a farm on the east side of Cross Lake, south of where the Snake comes out. I will be fishing from shore there with my kids. There is a private landing across the street from our place. I have done a lot of fishing right below the dam, wading, and did real well fishing the eddys. Never got the chance to float it fishing. I did however white water canoe it in the spring, and almost died in ’76! Never did find the canoe. Just above the dam is really good. Just a stones throw from the landing. Right where you actually enter the lake, mid channel. Medium suckers or creek chubs work great! Cut bait works well too! If you follow the road around Cross Lake’s east side, and go about 5 miles, you will cross a bridge that goes over the Snake. The landing is just past the bridge on the left. The landing is nice.
