What a beautiful night last night. 60 degrees, clear, winds calm, a million stars out. That darn beaver slapping his tail around the boat again. Anybody sell beaver repellent? and best of all – the St Croix channel bite is on!! There is nothing that can beat the Twins on the radio and a couple of cat rods out the back of the boat. Now if the Twins can just get those runners home with the bases loaded the night would be perfect. Romero gives up the homer in the top of the ninth
The river is back within its banks (river elevation 677.5′) and the water temp is starting back up (49 degrees last night). Still a nice current flow in the backwaters and the minnows are active and fish were splashing. All good signs for a positive bite. I picked up one really fat chunky channel (29″, 11.4#) at 8:30 pm (forgot the darn digital camera) and missed another fish at 9:30 on cut sucker. Not real fast action but the first fish of the year and enough to make me want to get out again tonight.
