Although they probably don’t consider themselves pros, my brother and dad were out separate days this weekend on the tiny Fox river down here…both caught cats. Brother managed a seven pounder which for this big “creek” is quite impressive. Dad said his fish were in the 2-3 pound range, which is more like it. All on chicken liver. I had tree duty this weekend, clearing the area that will be the driveway.

It’s good to hear someone’s catching. JetCat, I know you fish flatheads, but do you ever fish channels here in MN?

You scared me JC! I thought when you said tree duty…you were sitting in a tree that the government wanted to cut down…(whew)

If you guys want to have some fun with channels, Cross Lake and the Snake River in Pine City are the place to go! I really think that the Channel Cat record could be broken there. I have caught three channels in excess of 20 pounds there.

I fish channels as much as Flatheads, really no need to fish Minnesota there are plenty of big channels in Wis. During the early season I would concentrate on the feeder rivers more than the big pools. Once the fish have spawned and set up into their summer patterns the big pools can be quite productive…but I would be elsewhere right now. I wish Dirk would chime in, I know he fishes your waters with good springtime channel success.

I’m no Pro, but I did catch a 2 pounder with my kid yesterday.

I’d post a picture but he wouldn’t hold it.

I was fishing on Lake Poygan in WI.

The only thing my picture proves is that I’ve been to Lockport. I’m much more proud of 15 pound channels I’ve caught in WI.

That is just a sweet looking picture I like to look at.

I’m no salesman either but I’ve been catching channels since late March. The Miss downtown Mpls has been a little slower lately but 3 weeks ago the bite was pretty good with fish from “really small” to 13#. A small hook with a headless fathead does the trick. Liver was working for some folks as well as store bought shrimp.

The river is pretty high up there now but I’m planning on trying again with some bigger offerings this time
