Got your alls attention didn’t I? No really I did catch this fish lastnight. But the thing was is that I was throwing a castnet in my pond trying to get bait for todays trip. It was a heck of a fight in the castnet. It sure gave me the itch to get out and get a hold of one of those big boys after just holding that one. Our water temp is 52 degrees today on the main river. I have a cooler full of live bait and going to give those guys a try later today. I’ll post and let you know how I do. I’m sure the smaller ones should be bitting by now. There usually the first to come out of the winter holes to feed.

I’m ready! Hopefully I’ll find some suckers while trout fishing this week end…Flatty bait is hard to find right now.

Hey Dark – A word of caution, I was also going to be looking for chubs on a local trout stream. I ran across this on page 27 of the Minnesota Fishing Regulations under Stream Trout Regulations. “Taking minnows or leeches from designated trout waters, except under special permit, is prohibited.” I had this perfect spot for chubs but it is in a designated trout stream, I guess I will have to scratch it from my list of bait spots. Getting flathead bait keeps getting harder and harder.

Ya, I’m aware of that. There are plenty of “non-designated” areas that hold bait fish if you want them alive. I think its legal to keep suckers if you want too as long as they are dead. A big “rearranged” sucker would work for flathead bait right now anyway. I wonder how hard it would be to get a special permit to catch n keep live ones?
