Well, all you experienced cat fishermen probably could have told me this, but sometimes we have to learn from our stupidity! My cousin visited, could not be convinced to fish for bass, which I know something about, nor walleye, which I know even less about. Nope, had to go catfishing. In a bass boat. With carpet. With semi rotten chicken chicken livers. You guessed it, the container of livers spilled when I took off and spilled on the carpet. The stink is out of this world. Used the pressure washer and cleaner. Used carpet cleaner on the maggots. Used Era and a scrub brush twice, I seem to have gotten most of it. Hope I don’t have to burn the boat! So if I ever get the urge to go cat fishing again, tie me to a tree and make me fish from shore. And the effort landed us three soft shell turtles, no channel cats which taste good

well, I would say your first big mistake was to use chicken liver, but I know that some guys catch fish with them. But when fishing for cats especially if you were on the river why not use something that they normally feed upon.
Good luck on getting the smell out!!!! Leave the cover off boat and leave it directly in the hot sun for two or three days it will go away… make sure you got the the cleanup done first.

Fresh cut suckers, skipjack, or shrimp would have been better baits maybe?

Try Arm & Hammer Baking Soda on the area and if you put a boat cover on leave a box of the soda open under the cover. Charcaol also will suck out the stink but mostly lots of fresh air and time is the best way.

I guide for catfish and I don’t have carpet in my boats for a very good reason.

The soda should help a lot I think?

Thanks mavzer and Back water Eddy for the tips. I got maybe 80% of the stink out, plan to leave the boat out for a couple of days and will fish Saturday. so it should get plenty of sun.

Hey, maybe if you leave the stink in the boat, you wont have to deal with other boats being to close. HE HE./ I did the same thing to my cloth tackle box. THREW IT THE HELL OUT OF THE BOAT AFTER THE 2ND DAY OF SMELLING IT. GOOD LUCK CLEANING. FF
